I love this oldie, but goodie. I'd gotten an amazing opportunity to work with him during this time period. He's sometimes come to the studio in that red shirt. Without the camera on, he's quite lose and somewhat goofy in a really charming way. Not stiff at all. Super nice guy, who had no reason to talk to me, a low level intern, but he saw me wearing a Beatles Help! teeshirt and was excited to talk about them.

Cool. I had, or maybe still have somewhere, an old 'cookbook' about creating sound effects with a guitar (monkey screams, seagulls, race car, etc.). Wonder if he wrote or contributed to it. The make your guitar sound like a banjo is still my favorite.

I had the VHS, but eventually it broke and I tossed it. Luckily someone else had the foresight to post it!

Honestly the best advice is, play alot, consistently, and play what you love. You'll be much more likely to learn the hard stuff if you've already fallen in love with the fun stuff. Good Luck.

I saw Adrian Belew live last week with Beat, which is him and Tony Levin from King Crimson plus Steve Vai and Danny Carey. He played that guitar from the video on several songs. Other songs featured his Parker Fly with sustainiac pickup.

That inspired me to pick up my Fernandes Revolver with sustainer, only to find that the sustainer no longer works. A fresh battery does not help.

My Fernandes is a rather crappy guitar with a crappy Floyd Rose type trem which won't stay in tune. The only good thing about it was the sustainer. Well.. that and the custom artwork a friend of mine has painted on it. That still makes it a keeper as a wall ornament.

Some people are amazing at getting weird and wonderful tones from a guitar. There’s a British band called Punishment of Luxury who don’t have a huge backlog of recorded music, but their guitarist did some amazing things with a handful of pedals.

I am in the market for a sustainiac guitar but there is not a lot of choice, especially since I prefer one that does not scream metal. Currently I am looking at the Reverend Reeves Gabrels signature RG-SUS. Although I am not crazy about its shape that one would match my style. It is pricey though.

I tried a Freqout as well but it is not the same thing. Its sustain is not endless.
