You should try them , spire and hive are not the same .spire have a special sound you cant use for everything, hive is a lot more neutral.

If the OP hasn't decided in 11 years, they're probably never going to.

But it looks like Spire was the choice: viewtopic.php?p=6703184#p6703184

But which one do you use more often?

This is an easy one for me. U-he supports Linux. I use Hive.

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)

Funny how things change over 11 years and I guess this is one benefit of thread necros - some of us get to realize that we're not all closed-minded. :P I re-bought Spire a few years ago and it has become one of my go-to soft synths ever since. I'm guessing there's a combination of my much faster computer these days and optimization of Spire's code, but its performance has been rock solid and I don't even notice how much it hits the CPU.

Zebra3, Diva & Bazille are 3 of my top synths however I give the nod to Spire on this one. It's not a hill I'd die on, both are fine choices.

100% Spire
Hive I'm not a fan, sound too digital to me

Some great OSC tracks created with Hive v1.

I've always liked the sound of Spire, and the interface looked good too. I have nothing against it as a typical bread and butter VA synth. It it worked on Linux natively, I would probably own it.

Hive has the better workflow, but I enjoy Spire sound more. I hope it gets a workflow revamp.

Korg Supporter wrote: Mon Jul 06, 2026 2:57 am Spire has many filter saturation options that Hive lacks. Spire also uses less CPU than Hive 2 for the most part. Hive has more of a cold and neutral sound that brings it to Novation Peak territory, while Spire sounds brighter, more plastic, and is often in your face. Spire wins for presets and sound design, but Hive is more of a bread and butter synth.
Did you deliberately searched for this 11 year old necro topic to revive?
