Voidcontrol MIDI has released the OB-6 Unofficial Editor, a Windows VST3 plugin that lets you control and automate the Oberheim OB-6 from within a DAW, just like a software instrument.

The OB-6 is a beloved analog polysynth, and the Unofficial Editor makes it straightforward to integrate into a modern DAW session. Every parameter is on screen, organized by section, with real DAW automation on every control rather than just MIDI learn.

A standalone version is also included.

Features include:
+ Full parameter control, organized by section.
+ Real DAW automation lanes for every parameter (vst3 version).
+ A patch library with naming, categories, search, and sharing.
+ A polyphonic sequencer that plays back on the OB-6 itself.
+ A/B snapshots with an automatable morph slider.
+ Editing of the OB-6's global settings.
+ A resizable interface (50% to 300%).

The editor has been tested in Ableton Live, Bitwig, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, and Waveform on Windows 11 with the MIDI 2.0 environment.

"I built it because I wanted my OB-6 to fit into my DAW the way my soft synths do, and I designed it to be something I'd want to use myself every day," said Dave of Voidcontrol MIDI.

Voidcontrol MIDI is a small US-based developer making editors for boutique and classic hardware synths. The OB-6 Unofficial Editor is its second release.

The OB-6 Unofficial Editor is available now at voidcontrolmidi.com for an introductory $30 USD through June 16, 2026, after which it returns to its regular price of $40 USD.

The OB-6 Unofficial Editor is a third-party tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sequential or Oberheim. "OB-6" is a trademark of its respective owner.

What's new in OB-6 Unofficial Editor v1.0.1 (a free update for all owners):

* Stronger MIDI connection: auto-reconnects by name on USB re-plug, and the Sync indicator settles instead of spinning.

* Remembers your MIDI device and asks which to use when multiple OB-6 ports are present.

* Library: favorites (star) with sort-to-top, a new Drum category, and .syx import/export of a program, a bank, or all banks.

* Safer sequencer editing: a plain click now selects a note instead of erasing it; tie tails drag to shorten or remove, not just extend; Alt+Up/Down nudges pitch.

* More stable overall, with smoother sequencer playback.

* Fully compatible with v1.0 projects, libraries, and licenses.

(this is the foundation of the Mac version - no timeline, though)

OB-6 Unofficial Editor: now on Mac (v1.0.2)

The OB-6 editor is now available for macOS, as an Audio Unit, VST3, and standalone app. Apple Silicon, macOS 11 or later, signed and notarized. Works in Logic and every other major Mac DAW. One license key works on both Windows and macOS.

Tested in Logic Pro, Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, Cubase, Reaper, Studio One, and Waveform.

Launch price $35 USD through July 21, 2026 then $40 USD at voidcontrolmidi.com.

Also new in 1.0.2 (free update, both platforms):
* 50% zoom preset for smaller screens.
* Export now warns before overwriting an existing file.
* Export All Banks now scans the synth first, capturing the full set instead of only what is loaded in the Library.
* Importing a single program now lands in the selected row and shows the patch name.
* MIDI OUT set to "-- None --" no longer overridden by auto-detect.
* Bank display now follows front-panel BANK changes on the hardware.
* Fixed the sequencer window reappearing after close then minimize/restore.

What's New in 1.0.3

* Corrected LFO shape icons. The sine and the two sawtooth icons now match what you hear. Display only; your presets are unchanged.

* Playing comes first during a Library scan. Using Morph, Paste, or Push now stops a running "Scan All Banks" so your change is heard immediately.

* Smoother, more reliable MIDI. A smoother A/B Morph on macOS, no stuck notes when a MIDI port is disconnected, patch names that keep up as you step through patches, and cleaner connection handling throughout.
