Orbinator (synth)

Hi there, I had a lot of fun making this silly little synth for the KVR dev challenge 2026!
I've had this idea (and a crappy prototype) for a while, but the KVR challenge was a good excuse to turn it into an actual plug-in. (And also to learn how to make builds for Linux. If you're on Linux, let me know how well it works for you!)
The way this works, is that the line that goes between the dots describes a single-cycle of a waveform, like in a wavetable synth, except that the dots are constantly rotating and so the waveform is always changing.
Give it a try and leave a vote if you like it: https://www.kvraudio.com/product/orbina ... iodev-blog

Works flawlessly on Ubuntu 24 in both reaper and bitwig.kerfuffle wrote: Wed Jul 08, 2026 8:39 pmIf you're on Linux, let me know how well it works for you!)
I do like the idea very much and I thoroughly appreciate you going the extra mile for making that nice looking UI. The Tuning and ADSR sliders were very intuitive and the display makes it directly clear what is going on.
Orbinator can produce quite some nice sounds and I especially enjoyed building some slowly evolving pads with it.
Very solid entry!

I am glad you started a thread about it. There are so many good entries, I missed yours. Will give it a spin.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
