I look at this and wonder.. what is their marketing department smoking? I can't imagine a bunch of people getting together and deciding "Let's make a huge workstation that's less capable than a decent PC, and then let's charge a fortune for it so that it's out of almost everyones price range! We'll sell a million of them!"
I mean.. it's cool.. but for that price I can set up an insanely powerful DAW and have money left for a rack full of hardware!
Nice try.. but.. ugh!

That was exactly what went through my mind as I watched the video presentation. Not only that, I was also wondering why they bother to "show off" less than stellar "acoustic" sounds, when any good sample library on the market sounds more realistic and organic. Unless you can play me a convincing orchestral piece on it, or just a convincing string section, don't bother.woolyloach wrote:I look at this and wonder.. what is their marketing department smoking? Not impressed in the least.
From what I heard in the demo, the sounds weren't even that great. The piano wasn't better than a Motif, the orchestra sounded...well..synthetic, the electric piano was halfway decent.
I'm just not impressed by any aspect of it.

For an amusing "geek view" of the OASYS, check the SlashDot article. Some of the comments are entertaining.
Edit: Never mind, it's deteriorated into a GPL fight.

I have an OASYS PCI as well. I love it too, but lately I've been pondering whether to keep it or not. Its getting to be a hassle, because I have to power up a seperate machine, use a KVM, etc., and its way underpowered.birrman wrote:However I do own an OASYS PCI & absolutely love it....
If it didn't sound gorgeous, the decision would be sooo easy....
BTW, has anyone heard anything about PhM in this new OASYS?

I just bought a new home for mine & I think it was the right decision. Instead of a G3 it now lives in a 2.4G celeron kit computer running win98. The machine is complete overkill but it was so cheap....I think I am going to buy energyXT or chainer & make it a standalone vst box + OASYS synth.
(still using a KVM too).
