Everything is coded from scratch on the Web Audio API — zero dependencies, no build step. Took us forever but it sounds right.
On the "free" part (since it matters here): the whole machine plays for free, no account, no nags. A free account only lets you save projects, export WAV and unlock a couple of extra kits. Nothing is paid.
