Hi everyone,

One of the bigger challenges I’ve faced while switching to macOS is the lack of certain specialized Windows audio tools. In my case, it is "FMJ Awave Studio". It is an essential part of my workflow.

I’m wondering if anyone here has found a reliable workaround to run Awave Studio properly on macOS.

I have already tried both Wine and CrossOver. Unfortunately, the results were not usable for me.
  • The application launches, but there are noticeable GUI issues such as missing tabs, differently rendered windows, and incomplete interface elements.
  • Drag-and-drop support is also poor, which is a major problem for how Awave Studio is normally used.
Has anyone managed to get Awave Studio working properly on macOS, especially on Apple Silicon? Are there specific Wine versions, settings or wrappers that improve compatibility? :help:

System: Macbook M5 running Tahoe 26.5.1

Sometimes the main Crossover “advanced” settings for graphics (and trying the various options rather than auto) might make a difference for graphical issues. The “Wine Settings” bit rarely fixes stuff, unless you’re missing an MS Redistributable package, which an app expects, and you can add it via there.

This also assumes you’ve tried a different OS bottle type (WinXP-11) too, as well as 32-bit Vs 64-bit mode. Come Mac OS 27 Crossover will no longer support 32-bit bottles. So, even if you could get it working with a 32-bit XP bottle, if it needs this it might not be a long-term path.

Of course, virtual machines (EG Parallels) where you do a full install of x86 Windows, would work on Apple Silicon.. Depending on how determined you are to get it working :)

Thanks for your reply. I managed to solve the issue by contacting FMJ Software dev, he released a new version of Awave Studio that addressed several issues.

Reference:
  • Awave Studio v.12.15
  • Release date: 2026-07-07
  • Improved compatibility with Wine — the free Windows emulator; www.winehq.org — allowing Awave Studio to be run on macOS and Linux. A number of compatibility issues have been fixed; e.g. a blank command bar, black menu icons, misplaced tooltips, missing Unicode characters, and broken drag-and-drop. There may still be minor glitches, but overall, it ought to be usable.

Great news! :)

(Also: I'm Accused of lying about Linux—it boots, runs my pro audio workflow, stays stable, updates--though yearly dismissed as “niche”. Yet I'm the deluded one.)
