Quite personally I'm a big fan of Avicii, Madeon, deadmau5, Aphex Twin and... myself I guess.

Basically I'm a fan of electronic music in general (spanning from the electropop of Madeon and my own music to the IDM and ambient techno of Aphex Twin)

What about you guys?

In my past, I've listened to probably most everything (especially all of the various branches and sub-genres of New Wave and Alternative, covering everything from goth, punk, and post-punk, to ambient, classical, and downtempo). For the last decade though, I've been mainly into Dream-pop, Shoegaze, Indie, Dub, and Post-rock. I'm especially interested in foreign unheard-of independent bands that no one else has heard of. Over all though, I'm really open minded. :)

Music written by people who know how to write songs in minor keys, performed by people who know how to play musical instruments with their hands.

Spinal Tap is one of my all-time favorite films!
It's kind of sad though, really, when you think about it, that a character actor of the 1980s could improvise a song on piano for a comedy bit better than most "musicians" of today can write or play.

Christopher Guest is sneaky talented, it's always amazing the different characters he can come up with on top of being an actual musician. He did tour with the band Lenny and the Squigtones before Spinal Tap and they were an actual band of real musicians but playing comedy songs. So the guy has musical talent.

You're better off that way!

Often I'll think of the Buddha - when he travelled the orient and grew a pot belly - learned to play stringed instruments. He was very much in touch with Om (the one vibration behind all vibrations) so that every sound, and especially music, filled him with joy. Though I'm not a Buddhist, this does help me keep an open mind and be less judgemental, with a constant hunger for new music.

The thing to keep in mind about Depeche Mode is they were a rock band (post-punk) who happened to play synthesizers. Martin Gore has always written on guitar, and, particularly in the early days before MIDI, they played their parts by hand. They also recorded their synths live in the studio through miked amps. This is why Depeche Mode sounded like a real band playing instruments in a room together. Because they were!

Right. The band Lenny and the Squigtones came out of the Happy Days spin-off show, Laverne and Shirley, with Michael McKean as Lenny. It was actually the precursor for Spinal Tap. Christopher Guest even appeared on the tour as "Nigel Tufnel."
