Cool sounds in the video. What is the size of the Soundbox instrument?klinik wrote: Thu Nov 13, 2025 1:49 pm Drones & Atmospheres

Edit - never mind. I grabbed it and bought you a coffee. The wav file pack is about 112.4 MB and the flak version is about half that. You inspired me to actually *get* Soundbox after all of the original kerfuffle about it. Thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks Gribs! You have two versions in the download, one Flac encoded and the other is uncompressed wav. Both should sound the same, the wav versions is for iPad users, some older soundbox version had glitches when using Flac.

Soundbox is great! I really love it, the design and its simplicity. It's also very easy to create cool soundscapes with the randomize button and a custom library.
The only drawback for me is the lack of auto-mapping feature, which makes mapping multi-sampled instruments a chore. I just did a 4 velocity layers one sample per note piano and it took me an hour and a half to map by hand.
For those interested, I created Cozy Piano, which is a free sample based instruments available in various formats including Soundbox: https://samplescience.gumroad.com/l/cozypiano
Just put "0" in the price field to get it for free.

What do you need to do to be able to sample with it? Does it require a special license?SampleScience wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 1:46 am Soundbox is great! I really love it, the design and its simplicity. It's also very easy to create cool soundscapes with the randomize button and a custom library.

IIRC, to be able to load your own samples, you need to buy one of their expansions, which has a license to activate it, AND once 'activated', allows for sample import beyond just the expansion.audiojunkie wrote: Wed Jul 15, 2026 3:20 pm

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil
