Hi all, Vaporwave has been released. Check out our YouTube channel, it's more active than in the past with tutorials, track builds, etc.

Also summer sale is on now. Owners of NEXUS can now also upgrade to the complete bundle at a reduced price. Make sure you are logged in to refx.com to see your custom upgrade price.

Post

hmmmm kinda tempting, the price for complete upgrade is a few bucks cheaper per XP than the 10 bundle pack. does anyone know if the xmas sale is the same discount or maybe cheaper?

Fellow developers, consider releasing the "EURODANCE" extension for the Nexus 5.
This style is still in fashion.
VPS Avenger has this extension.

Vaporwave is really good.

I'm kind of hoping there might one day be a funk expansion, maybe 80s synth funk. We already have sounds of the 70s but that one was kind of hit or miss for me. I do realise the market for that would be smaller but it would be something different for the palette.

I'm thinking of getting either Avenger 2 or Nexus 5 during the summer sale, leaning towards Nexus 5 due to the more spacious interface for creating patches, but also because I like to start most things with presets and edit from there. Any opinions on which is the better synth and platform?

I have both...

in my opinion Avenger is far more powerful (if needed) and editable (i.e. in Nexus you cannot edit factory wavetables) but that comes at a price of high RAM and CPU usage...

I bought Nexus to have a "production machine" to have access to similar (editable) quality presets but with low CPU and RAM demands

So for me Nexus for a greater amount of stuff and Avenger where I need something "special"

If it´s just about taking presets and edit them a bit to your taste I personally would go with Nexus...
More lightweigted, much more presets from the beginning on and much cheaper preset packs with all of those "legacy" stuff which is still very useable...

Nexus finally opened up its system so you can edit the patches etc. which is awesome. I personally like Avenger 2 more than Nexus, somehow Nexus 5 is still too convoluted in my opinion to edit and is not much fun as Avenger 2, if you want many presets and dont want to edit much/make your own presets i would recommend Nexus 5 but if you want to do also your own sounds and dive deeper I recommend Avenger 2

I have to disagree. While I love both Avenger 2 and Nexus 5 equally, Nexus is a far more powerful synth due to its open architecture. Nearly unlimited Layers and Oscs, etc.

If you spend just a little time with N5 the workflow becomes not at all "convoluted" and it's a joy to program. The possibilities are endless.

Again I love Avenger. It is very powerful, great sounding, and is fun to program but saying N5 is not for making your own patches is misguided in my opinion.

I'd hate for someone to read that it's "convoluted" and pass on buying Nexus since it is one of the most powerful and great sounding synths on the market. :tu:

Avenger (1) never clicked with me. Didn't like the 90ies-looking GUI nor the sound, which alway has some specific plasticky to my ears. Also it did everytime my fan bring to the highest BPM in opposite to all other synths, I had at this time. Also I was very pissed, when they introduced Codemeter in mid of a major version. So I am restrained on the Schleis-Imperium

How does Nexus 5 compare to that? Don't mean the Presets, which seem to be similar, but rather the core-sound.

How does Nexus compare to Falcon&Omnisphere or , Serum&Pigments(w/o layering capabilities) soundwise? I am still not shure, if it's worth considering it, when I have already most of the other supersynths.

Would it bring some new or better to my table compared to the named synths?
