This is EightyTen, a free emulation of the fantastic Roland Super JX-10 / MKS-70 / JX-8P available for PC / MAC / Linux.

It's been a passion project of mine ever since DAWs went 64-bit and PG-8X wouldn't run anymore. Then TAL came out with theirs and I set it aside, but it's been a while, and with a Super JX appearing on my bench for repairs, it felt right to finish and release this baby. So without further ado, here it is. Dial in, layer some patches, and let me know what you think and how it sounds to you. And make sure the first thing you play is the hook from "The Final Countdown"!

Nice!
I just bought to support.
FYI, I didn’t receive a serial number again.

You should probably mention this is a free beta that will stop working. Permanent license is not free.
LICENSING

This plugin is a free beta. You can support its development using the pay-what-you-want option on Gumroad. Any contribution of $10 or more grants you a lifetime license, should future releases become paid. Note that older versions may stop working once newer ones are released.
Also, does it load JX-8P sysex/presets?

I just contributed for the lifetime license.

It doesn’t say when. I guess whenever the dev decides to start charging. You should be fine since you paid, but people thinking they’re actually getting a free plugin should be informed that they aren’t really.

Okay, I thought you knew something I didn’t.. I think it’s pretty clear on the site that you’re getting it free because it’s a beta, and if you contribute $10 you get a lifetime license.

Yeah, it’s clear on the site when you scroll all the way down. But it wasn’t clear here in the OP or thread title.

Didn't he mention in another thread that it was his first synth that could import SysEx files? Or have I been dreaming? :)

Edit: Found the post..

...but maybe that doesn't have anything to do with preset or bank import  (I have no idea).

His original thread title for another product that angered everyone contained "Better than TAL!" so the clickbait is part of the marketing strategy. Wow, FREE! Must click.

SysEx is already built in — the plugin can send and receive patches to and from the hardware, and act as a controller, PG-800 style. In this build it's switched off while I finish a few related functions, but it's coming. A few sample patches from the hardware are already in there for you to test and verify it does what it should and sounds like the real thing. And just about any patch you dial in should sound exactly as it does on the hardware.

Thanks for the reply, I'm confused it's built in , so are you saying, you will have a dedicated import / export function for our sysex files ? you mentioned it can send/receive from hw, what about the software, will it support sysex import/export ?

thanks

Happy to check — what format are your files in exactly? JX-8P single patches and banks import fine. The MKS-70 side is trickier, its SysEx has always been a bit of a minefield, so it depends on how those dumps were saved. Let me know what you've got and I'll tell you straight whether it'll load. Or send them over and I'll convert them to plugin presets for you to test in this beta right now, until the final import function is finished.

You mentioned this is a Super JX - the Super JX was a JX-10 and it's bi-timbral could do layers/splits and 12 voice polyphony.
In terms of the files, I have MKS70 files which the JX-10 ( specifically the JX-10 keyboard ) is completely compatible with MKS-70 files. The Roland JX-10 (Super JX) and the MKS-70 share the exact same sound engine. System Exclusive (SysEx) patch and tone files designed for the MKS-70 are fully compatible with the JX-10,this was my question..

I just wanted to make sure all the above is possible to be able to load my old sounds :tu:

Yes — it can already read and write both to/from the hardware and to/from raw SysEx files; the data is the same either way. This was an integral part of modeling and calibrating the DSP, so the functionality already exists. It just doesn't have an active and finished GUI yet, which is what's coming in a future version.
