Win 11 system - pops and clicks in last 2 months

I have a new system I got in November. It replaced a machine from 2019 which ran DAW Stuff reasonably well with no issues. The new machine is a 12th gen i9 with 32 GB RAM.
The thing is, over the last 2 months I have been noticing pops and clicks, even on modest projects. Does anyone know of anything MS might have done in terms of Windows updates that might be tanking my system? (like perhaps the time they decided to turn Bitlocker on for me even though I had it turned off?)

Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

It could be a lot of things. What's your audio interface? Is it an ASIO driver? Sample rate and buffer size settings? Using an SSD? Power settings set for performance? Set your DAW for exclusive control of the audio device (at least I think I remember that being some kind of setting, it's been awhile)?
Windows can do it, but you may need to wrestle it into submission. Don't lose heart, you got this.
Oh, should have pointed out that I'm on Win11 fully updated with no issues, so no, I don't think Microsoft did anything to break Windows in the last two months. Then again, I crushed as many non-essential background processes as possible when I first set up my machine, so that may be a factor. idk

How's Resplencency's LatencyMon report on that system?
Always check that first. Always.
I thought you weren't a newbie, mumpcake.

Also make sure the 'vinyl emulation' slider is switched to 'off' in your sound settings

That did the trick. Apparently Windows must have turned that on in the last update.mcbpete wrote: Tue Jul 14, 2026 10:51 am Also make sure the 'vinyl emulation' slider is switched to 'off' in your sound settings
More likely the end cause was mystic light/lightkeeper/led services. I'm not 100% sure because I changed a few things at the same time and I don't care to test that.
Also it's amazing how much stupid crap windows was running on my system. I would look at Task Manager and see 25% of my RAM being used while not having anything else open.

https://openrgb.org/ could be a better option than mystic light, have been working fine on my last 2 builds...but as always various HW configs can differ in results. However, it's free so worth a try.mumpcake wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2026 9:22 pm More likely the end cause was mystic light/lightkeeper/led services. (side note, I had MSI motherboard on my previous DAW (AM4) and MSI bloatware made the performance complete thrash for audio works... I've since then avoided anything besides manually download and install the drivers needed for the motherboard. Rem0o/FanControl and OpenRGB have been the treating me well...so far at least. Cause we all now RGB makes the perfomance go at least 2x so Fan Control is obviously needed to manage the fan speed so it doesn't takes off as a helicopter and leave the room)
