PartialString
Finite-difference time-domain physical modelling string synthesiser

I’ve been working on this on and off since releasing https://github.com/crnbaker/gostringsynth (https://github.com/crnbaker/gostringsynth) back in 2022 (although for some reason the post seems to have been deleted - maybe the mods getting rid of old software posts). It uses the FDTD method to model a simple, “ideal” string (no stiffness) but let’s you do some silly things like reduce the accuracy for metallic sounds and modulate the position of the pickup at audio rate for AM-like side bands.

A version with a more realistic model is in the pipeline.

Sounds good, does it allow extreme settings outside of a normal constrained model?

Thanks for this

Yes, it's not supposed to be realistic. Just a different way of thinking about sound design. Some "unreal" things:

* You can reduce the accuracy of the model (i.e. the number of points by which the string is represented) to introduce dispersion, and therefore inharmonicity. It sounds metallic and bell like.
* You can modulate the position of the pickup up to audio rate, which does some AM type things.

And... that's about it I think  but the sound palette is pretty broad. Check out the video above, I do both.

nice release, any chance to get GUI resizing :) it GUI is a bit too small :)

Aging eyes + aging CPU = :drunk:

I appreciate it, though. I'll save it for when I get a new computer and new glasses. It might be able to replace some old string modeling synths I used to enjoy that never got 64 bit versions.
Surely there must be consensus by now...
