I don't understand. Can you explain more in detail what you mean by that?

You probably mean "ensembles" when you talk about "patches", right?

And, why do you think that instruments should just cost a third of what they are sold for then? A Reaktor instrument takes a lot of time in development as well (actually, there isn't any difference to developing a VST with another framework, I would say).

Likely not. But many of us realised that was not really of their doing.
Yes, of course it was.
They ran their business poorly and without any direction for YEARS and it finally caught up with them.
How much were they in debt before Francisco stepped in?
Presumably jamcat isn't aware of what a leveraged buyout is and how it works. Which is strange, as I'm pretty sure he was active in the thread about the insolvency proceedings where it was explained about twenty times.

🤔

Now you’re just embarrassing yourself!

The big deal for most will surely be that they keep on developing Reaktor, which some have claimed that they wouldn't. Ongoing creation of NI's synth for the Reaktor platform also shows its importance to them.
Yeah, it’s definitely a smart and necessary move for them. I have long maintained that NI’s best path forward was cutting all the fat and laser-focusing on Kontakt and Reaktor.

It always felt like Reaktor was an incomplete thought by not being able to do the obvious and export ensembles as standalone plugins. But finally doing it now, in the age of AI vibe coding, it seems a day late and a dollar short.

Not only that, but I always thought criticism of NI’s business practices were that they got cold feet and/or dropped development leaving many in the lurch. Not so much of the ‘Finding themselves in hundreds of millions of debt’ kind of bad business they seemed to accuse NI of.

I could be wrong.

Trolls gonna troll

That's assuming they release the plugin making update to us mere mortals, rather than just make it available to 'builders' like the ability to create Kontakt instruments that will run in Kontakt player is (with some sort of licensing for the plugin export aspect)

Post

They've been making standalone and VST/AU Reaktor based synths for 20 years at least now.

A.g. cook has a song called 'soft landing' that has the supersaws detuned into harmony/chaos aesthetic that the plugin is trying to streamline. Not sure if this was an intentional pun, but got a smile out of me.
Happy to have coaxed a smile, but I can’t claim any intention :D

I must admit that I had no idea who A.G. Cook is before this plugin. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though. ;)

I don't understand. Can you explain more in detail what you mean with that?
Sure, as I understand it behind the scenes it's just a Reaktor preset. You would design the preset in Reaktor and get it working how you want it to work

Then you design a GUI to control the parameters on your preset and it turns that into a standalone instrument that's a VST3 or whatever

I haven't used the new system and don't have any insider information, but that is most certainly what they are indicating

I currently do something exactly like that for my own purposes and amusement using a software called Gig Performer. It works with any VST3 instrument or groups of instruments and effects. They all run behind the scenes and send audio and MIDI around to where you want them to go. Then you design a GUI for it to control everything, with Gig Performer you simply drag and drop faders, knobs, switches, and buttons onto the screen in all kinds of colors and shapes

It's loads of fun and a great idea for NI to explore. However charging $99 for them is insane. Wouldn't be surprised to see tons and tons of such instruments go up for sale many of them designed with AI.

Because you can tell and AI like Google Gemini, or Claude already what you want to do and it can design a Reaktor instrument. I just spent 5 minutes with Gemini and it gave me the step by step instructs on how to build an instrument in Reaktor. Then I asked it to design a custom GUI for it and it did. With this new system I could probably have a functioning instrument up for today if I wanted

It's like if Vibe Coding wasn't going to flood the market already this will make it way worse and people will be trying to sell them for stupid money

No, it isn't. Educate yourself a bit what it means to develop Reaktor ensembles with Reaktor core.

Specifically take a look at some of NI's Reaktor instruments, or Pulsecraft Chjro-Nyx, which all took years to develop. It's nothing different to developing a VST instrument or effect with some VST development framework, it's just that the language is different.

And, of course, so far it was limited to running inside of Reaktor.

And you don’t see the connection between the two?

But more precisely, the problem NI has had for twenty years now is they can’t tell the difference between good products and bad products. A lot is wasted in churn and turnover on new products no one wants and no one asked for, while neglecting or outright discontinuing the core products that built their brand.

My read on the current situation is NI is on probation and has a very short window to turn it around and start generating a profit or they will be put out to pasture and have their IP stripped and repurposed.

I kind of missed the positive, optimistic attitude around here. ;)
