How did you reverse engineer parameter mapping in the sysex file? was it a manual process or automated ?

I'm going to ramble here because I want to share as much as I can. I'm pretty thrilled that I could do this. This was my first Claude Code AI project. I really don't know what I'm doing. I'll have to pick Funkybot's brain to tweak these converters beyond what Claude can do... But it was automated of course by AI. I just asked Claude if we could do this and it said yes, and asked me to upload matching presets from the hardware and the software versions, and suggested the OG factory presets which were in both. It made the first version of the converter. Then I told Claude where certain patches were not matching and it tweaked things. Then I said I wanted fields to enter the Collection and Author names. I guess I could add field for Tags as well, but I don't use those much so I haven't yet. Then I went to convert INHALT's splits and layers bank from Sequential's website. I told Claude there were no splits or layers in the converted presets and it said "Oh, I based the converter on 01 Brass patch which didn't have splits or layers." Then it examined that .sys file and added splits and layers parameters conversion. Pretty mind blowing really. My expectations were pretty low, and I was really impressed by the quality of the conversions.

Then I asked Claude to do the Repro-5 to GForce converter. Claude thought that would be easier going plugin to plugin. It looked at OG hardware presets from both and mentioned how different scaling of parameters, etc was. Sounded like it had it figured out, but the conversions are more off than the hardware to GForce one. Except it seems to always get pitch correct.

Yeah, my version is not as pretty or easy to use as yours, but I've been dialing it in and fine-tuning it against the hardware for weeks. I've gotten it really close, but still trying to close the gaps even further.

If I may, the Claude Convert seems to export all at Volume 10, whereas Gforce tend to aim for around 6~7.
Some of the converted patches at 10, are sending my sound card (Audient id24) into red.
Is it possible, to have the option to choose an export volume?

Good call! Claude agreed that GForce's standard is 7 for the volume, so it will use that instead on the converted presets. "The Prophet-5 hardware doesn't store a master volume per program at all. It saves oscillator and noise mix levels (which we do convert), but overall volume is a front-panel knob, not part of program data. So there's nothing in the SysEx to carry across."

At the bottom of that discussion some nice person had factory "Rev3.3 patches (120) converted to Rev4". So I used those thinking the GForce Prophet-5 is really a Rev4...?

The converter is updated now for volume setting of 7 on hardware preset conversions. The Repro-5 conversion should map the different volume levels from Repro presets.

No, the converter also does a (rough) conversion of Repro-5 presets now.

I'm about to post a new version later today, here's my advice to you: wait for me to go first, steal my work.

You should be able to use my Conversion Report, Python Script, and lookup tables, to better map to RePro-5. I mean, just steal all my work and put it in a nicer UI, dropping the Python requirement and I'd be totally happy.

I'm at the point now, where I'm just validating edge case patches, making sure the volume is right, etc. Every patch on mine that I'm converting and comparing against the hardware, I'm rating a 4.25 or higher out of 5 so it's really darn close now.

I've spent weeks measuring. Tuning, voice drift, resonance (surprisingly hard - the hardware at 120 translates to about RePro at 73 depending on the filter), FM/Polymod ranges, OSC B LoFreq, Envelope Timings, LFO rates, etc. Then doing tests over and over again. Refining, refining, refining. I've literally probably taken thousands of measurements and have them in a giant Excel workbook. So yeah, save yourself the hassle and just steal from me.
