So I have Audient ID4 MK2 (the volume knob doesn't have a stopper, it rotates indefinitely), This gives a lot of gain, especially when producing in headphones. Obviously, in the DAW I have a clipper on the master channel to prevent from accident volume spikes during processing. But what I cannot protect myself from is setting the audio interface to a very high volume accidentally. Is there any workaround? Thanks.

Does the knob have any sort of indicator? My EVO4 has a pretty LED ring around it, so I know where the knob is knobbing to. Looking at a pic, I see it doesn't seem to have any sort of indicator. Odd! I would not like that at all.

As a workaround my EVO4 actually controls the PC system level (rather than an internal VCA), so I can see the numbers fly if I have the output level on display - how to do that without hovering or using the software clone onscreen???

Hi Benedict! It does have the indicator, but it turns off automatically after a few second. The volume knob itself rotates so easily, that I have accidentally set to the max a few times. That was painful..

Ok cool, that seemed a total fail otherwise. My EVO4 swaps from Knob Level to Audio Levels after a few secs, not a drama. I can trust easily.

My suggestion: Be more intentional - build trust and its handmaiden, courage, so you can be present as you do everything. This helps your 'system' to be more comfortable with what is where.

Just like driving, the most important thing is to allow all the things like pedals, paddle pop sticks for doing stuff (incl turning off Trailer Swift) to be in muscle memory. This lets you do what matters like avoiding hipsters in trade utes believing they are the emperor of all eternity.

I set my EVO 12 o'clock for normal listening and that is where it sits. Only adjusted for things that are overMasterbated (grrr) if I must listen to them (mostly they go off). When musicing, the knob moves to 3 o'clock - never full out. My amp controls overall level and never moves. Once you get this, you work at listening level for everything always. Plus if something comes out too loud, you know pronto and have plenty of headroom everywhere. EVO running at 70% (internal weighting) and my Rotel amp running at about 1.5 leaves a huuuge amount of headroom for the Jamos.
