Best free guitar processing plugins? (amp/cab, dist/overdrive)

I am looking for some guitar processing plugins, more specifically some amp/cab ones, gain/distortion ones. I have a real guitar and bass that I record clean but I am tired of the distortion plugins I have for my DAW.
I can't spend much money so I would really prefer some good free ones, though I am making a list of plugins to purchase in the next year or so.
I really like the Mesa Boogie rectifier of Nu-Metal type head distortion, so any suggestions for plugins that could replicate this sound would be *especially* appreciated (but I am not tied to that particular sound)

For free, I'd recommend NAM (Neural Amp Modeler) with some good captures. This is a good resource that explains it step by step:

The library on tone3000 is huge, including captures from Amps by Mesa Boogie, Diezel, Engl, Bogner etc.

NAM 2 I believe has been released recently so there should be a ton of new captures coming out soon on tone3000!

Oracle Sounds - Slamp, or Aurora DSP - Flesh Rot Suite, are excellent for high gain sounds that are a little bit different to the well-worn usual offerings. Whilst heavy stuff is those amps specialty, they can both be dialed back to make some pretty decent rock tones as well. Slamp has limited cab options but the 3 that are available slip right into a mix with minimal fuss and of course you can bypass the cab section to use your 3rd party IR loader. Flesh Rot has more bells and whistles including a range of different overdrives, a moveable miced cab section, a post eq and 4 effects: chorus, tremolo, delay, and reverb.
