CHOPGRID Happy Accident Sample slicer

Heya,
Long time listener, first time poster.
I built this app inspired by my Digitakt, so figured KVR folk might get some use out of it. The itch it scratches: filling all 128 sample slots meant sitting there slicing up 128 random files by hand, which I was never going to do.
So CHOPGRID does it in one click - grabs 16 random audio files, cuts 16 random start points, drops them across a grid. It kind of snowballed from there and now has 18 modules, synths, drum machiens, sequencers, effects, all of which can generate audio to feed back into the chopper.
Runs as a VST3 on Mac or PC, or as a standalone Mac app.
Dubspot just did a review of it if you want a proper walkthrough they gave it 8/10 and called it a "chaos-first sampler," which is about right: https://blog.dubspot.com/chopgrid-broekn-labs-2026
Happy to answer questions

VST3 isn't showing up in Ableton Live on Mac (Tahoe)
Edit: I thought Reaper wasn't scanning it either but I see that appears as an effect and not an instrument.
AU works in Ableton and standalone work.
The dividing lines in the loop builder don't seem to appear in the plugin version.
Tempo is weird. It's not locked to the DAW in the plugin version.
In the standalone version it works if I select a new tempo and rechop but things like the sequencers are not synced.
In manual mode it would be great if you could select more than one loop at a time.
Apart from those issues I'm really enjoying it and it's a really great idea. The basic idea of chopping up a folder full of loops and get something out of it is tons of fun.

Kraster, Are you able to email me .. There is a lot of things you mentioned there, none of which I have hit.. keen to know more about your setup so i can troubleshoot. info@broekn.com
i will answer your questions here tho..
It is an effect, not an instrument. Although you can technically load it as either. The reasoning behind that is it straddles both concepts, but to be able to feed audio INTO it as a plugin (ie to use the effects chains, or record things into KASET for example), it needs to be an effect.
If you are fine with just outputting audio, you can run it as a instrument. Its a bit like how Serum can be an Synth and a effect.. except instead of it being 2 plugins, its just the one dual use.
it will/should default to loading an audio track when loaded tho.
The dividing lines in the loop builder don't seem to appear in the plugin version - Will check.. are you talking about the little lines in the > sequencer?
Tempo is weird. It's not locked to the DAW in the plugin version - this i will need to investigate. I have tested it in Ableton, Cubase, Reaper and FL Studio on both Mac and PC before it was released.
In the standalone version it works if I select a new tempo and rechop but things like the sequencers are not synced - again, will need to check.
In manual mode it would be great if you could select more than one loop at a time - you can just drag in audio onto the app.
If you can email asap, as its been stable release for a while now so to hear all these issues is giving me mad anxiety..

nordickvr - it doesnt use the internet to function, except initially to do the licence ..
that said it will periodically randomly check the licence against the server .. but its infrequent (like every couple of weeks and mostly during first month or so. No other data is used..
we just needed a way to be able to revoke licences from people who purchased but then requested a refund..
apart from that its free standing.. once its licensed.. its yours.

Love the concept.
Won't buy because I need to know who I'm doing business with (imprint or short intro about yourself?) and who is tied to the creative tools I use for maybe a decade or so. Especially if a software periodically sends requests from my computer to some host on the internet.
Level playing field and all...

Wonshu, I appreciate the feedback. I have been considering making an about me page, the imprint stuff is all the legal stuff i need to be able to run a business and for my transaction provider to let me take orders. doesnt really say much else tho.
auto64.com if you want to know more about me in the meantime.. or vantagepointradio.com
also for the record, the request it sends is mostly in the first month, and its literally just to confirming your licence. its pretty standard practice. most apps do it on launch everytime.. i tried to be as light as possible with

The BPM issue and grid lines seem to be fine now.
It's really fantastic. There's a ton of things here and the whole experience is a ton of fun.
Amazingly deep once you get stuck in but also great for instantaneous gratification.

Heya, so 1.0.26 is up. Big thanks to Kraster for flagging the Tahoe / Ableton Live issue .. that was the main driver for pushing this build out today. On macOS 26 the VST3 wasn't reliably showing up in Live's plugin browser after install. Turned out to be a file-permission thing on the installer side which got regressed on the 1.0.25 update and slipped through, not the plugin itself. Sorted now, and it should just show up first time.
While I was in there I took the chance to knock over a bunch of the smaller things people have been mentioning in DMs and here on the forum.
anyway, i know its not exactly a great look, announcing a plugin to the then follow up with a patch.. but there were some really helpful suggestions both here and on email, which i rolled in to the update also.
cheers
Tom

downloaded v1.0.26 on MacOS Sequoia 15.7 (very first install/run) - it's impossible to run the app, it's hanging on the start screen and the whole system hangs. It's also impossible to start other apps or restart the system... after waiting for 30 minutes i had to cut from power the hard wayBROEKN LABS wrote: Wed Jul 22, 2026 3:27 pm Heya, so 1.0.26 is up.
