I don't even think that much of the KVR feedback is honest. It might simply be encouragement, or, in many cases, just a dishonest assessment shrouded in social signaling. Not always of course, but I think that it's more common than some people here want to admit. Yeah, I went there, that's my take.

You're probably not wrong. Some people are just being nice because they don't want to hurt your feelings and others are just jerks. And the sad part is, you can never tell which it is.

Personally, when I comment on someone's track, I'm honest. I try to be tactful if I don't like it and try to offer a valid explanation why like "I don't really care for that genre in general" or "It's muddy and can probably use some EQ in the mids" But I never just comes out and say I think it sucks/ That doesn't do anybody any good and just makes you look like an ass.

I'm actually quite honest and upfront when I give feedback. If I like the composition but not the mix, I'd say so, and vice-versa.

It's better to be a "jerk" then "nice" if someone is second guessing themselves and posting up songs for feedback.
Being "nice" isn't going to fire them up to do better. Telling them, "Not bad!" Or "Keep it up, just tweek this and tweek that" is bullshit nonsense that they don't want to hear. What they want to hear is their song is the best thing since boobs when what they should be hearing is their song is like dog shit on the sidewalk. That should piss them off and pump them up to do better. Or at least it should if they have any drive.
The thing is all this nonsense is simply because the song itself isn't powerful enough to feed their soul. It's pathetic.
