Hi all — I'm Richard, the developer behind Cantai, a singing synthesizer available for Dorico, Sibelius, and MuseScore Studio. The most common request I get is "when can I use this in my DAW?" — so that's what I'm building next, and I'm going to document the build in this thread as a devlog.Cantai DAW Edition is an AU/VST3 instrument: you type lyrics, it sings them, with real vocal timbres across SATB ranges. Move a note and the lyric moves with it, so editing works the way you'd expect an instrument to work rather than fighting a sample library.
Episode 1 of the video devlog lands here in the next couple of weeks — the story of why I'm building it, plus a first look at the plugin singing an eight-part shout chorus. After that I'll cover the lyric editing workflow, the harmony UI, and a host compatibility tour (Logic, Cubase, Reaper).
In the meantime: if you write for voices in a DAW, what does your current workaround look like, and what would make a vocal instrument actually usable for you? I'd rather build around real workflows than my own assumptions, so questions and skepticism are equally welcome. Targeting early 2027 for release.
