Are all eight tracks/lanes/sections/what-evers always open on the GUI, or can you just have two, four, or six open without the unused 'parts' being visible, and taking up space?

tracksets will be a vertical line, containing 8 Tracks a 4 subloops per Track. See

Every Trackset contains its own Settings, Audio and Snapshots, so basically this is like 8 Instances of the Plugin like it is now.
If you mean the tracks by itself - Plugin actually starts at 4 Tracks default and you can add more with +Track Button if needed (max8). But 1 Track for example not possible atm - will add a - Track and more flexible scaling in future i think, but this will be a whole branch for itself i guess
