I’m developing MIDI Manager as part of the MusicNote Haven project.
It is designed for musicians, keyboard players, producers, hardware enthusiasts, and music archivists who have accumulated large collections of .mid, .midi, and .kar files, or who work with FAT12 floppy disk images for vintage keyboards, arrangers, and Gotek-style floppy emulators.
The current public release is version 0.3.0 for Windows and Linux. MIDI Manager is already usable for real library-management, analysis, playback, floppy-image, and archive workflows, while development continues toward the full 1.0 release.
Main features
- Fast local indexing and search; Index and search large MIDI and karaoke collections across local drives without uploading the files to a cloud service.
- MusicBrainz-assisted Library Organizer; Helps identify artists and titles, detect reversed filename patterns, remove technical filename suffixes, and create organized copies with hash verification. MusicBrainz lookup is optional and requires an internet connection, while the library itself remains local.
- Deep MIDI analysis; Inspect tracks, MIDI channels, instruments, program changes, controllers, tempo changes, time signatures, key signatures, lyrics, text events, and other embedded MIDI information.
- MIDI compatibility indicators; Detect indicators associated with General MIDI, GM2, Roland GS, and Yamaha XG, together with device and manufacturer references found inside MIDI files.
- Hardware and manufacturer classification; Analyze files for references associated with hardware manufacturers and device families, including Roland, Yamaha, and Korg.
- FAT12 floppy-image tools; Create and inspect standard 3.5-inch 720 KB and 1.44 MB FAT12 .IMG disk images for compatible vintage hardware and floppy emulators.
- Machine and emulator profiles; Use guidance profiles for generic FAT12 systems, FlashFloppy Native, FlashFloppy Indexed, Korg, Roland, and HxC Indexed workflows. These profiles provide naming and capacity defaults without changing firmware, jumpers, or hardware configuration.
- Disk Image Basket; Select MIDI files from the organized library, calculate disk usage, distribute files across disk images, and create one or more FAT12 floppy images.
- USB/Gotek Export Planner; Preview and verify the export of IMG files to an existing USB or mounted target folder. Existing files are not silently overwritten, and exported images are verified after copying.
- IMG Viewer and safe IMG editing; Inspect FAT12 disk geometry and file contents, extract files, stage additions or removals, and create a verified edited image. Existing target images can only be replaced after explicit confirmation and creation of a verified backup.
- Folder catalogs and reports; Scan folders containing multiple IMG files and generate disk catalogs, master indexes, technical reports, and USB/Gotek index reports.
- Organized Library browser; Browse organized files with live search, liked-file filtering, genre filtering, playback controls, and direct access to related workflows.
- Detailed playback and queue management; Audition MIDI and KAR files before organizing or exporting them, create playback queues, shuffle selections, and manage liked files.
- Review and diagnostic tools; Review uncertain organizer matches, inspect failed analysis results, and browse MIDI files by detected device or manufacturer references.
- Local-first and cross-platform; Available as a Windows installer and Linux .deb package. Core indexing, analysis, organization, playback, and floppy-image functionality runs locally without mandatory accounts, forced synchronization, or cloud storage.
