Exactly. If all you care about is traditional synthesizer sounds that are found in pop music, you can pass on Madrona Labs, but if you want high quality synthesis that’s good for new and experimental sounds, they’re still one of the best.martinjuenke wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 12:54 pm Madrona is modern, unique, left field.
Not really first stop for traditional main stream synth fans.

Yes, that's correct.wagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 6:34 pmOkay, so does that mean since I bought it early this years I don't get a free upgrade?
Also – Aalto 2 didn't happen yet, I cannot see how Aalto 3 would be released this year.
Perhaps you'd better learn to know your software a little bit better and play music, instead of worrying about future upgrades.

For the love of God, I never said anything about Aalto 3. Somebody misquoted me.the_eraser wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 10:09 pmYes, that's correct.wagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 6:34 pmOkay, so does that mean since I bought it early this years I don't get a free upgrade?

Yes, you did actually, go back and read your posts. I'm sure it was a typo on your part, but nobody is misquoting you. No need to get feisty.wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 1:05 am For the love of God, I never said anything about Aalto 3. Somebody misquoted me.

You're right. It was a typo. I still don't understand who is and who isn't eligible for the free upgrade. My understanding is that if you purchased it within the last 12 months (I did) you're eligible for the free upgrade. But I'm being told nowagtunes wrote: Thu Jul 23, 2026 6:34 pmOkay, so does that mean since I bought it early this years I don't get a free upgrade?
I purchased Aalto on Feb 25, 2026. That's only 5 months ago. You're telling me that as only a 5 month old owner I'm not entitled to a free upgrade? It doesn't make any sense.

Well somebody here told me I'm not.JsinOwl wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 1:53 am @wagtunes I don't know, but I'd interpret it as you definitely qualify for the upgrade.
Does Madrona Labs ever do sales?

Since when, exactly, are developers obligated to keep giving you things for free after you've already made a purchase? Is there some law that says so?
As an existing customer, you'll most likely be offered a loyalty discount anyway. But acting as if you're *entitled* to someone else's future work at no cost is a pretty strange way to value the time and effort that went into creating it.
The fact that you bought version 1 doesn't mean the developer owes you version 2. If you think the new work is worth paying for, pay for it. If it isn't, don't.
Until then, enjoy your Aalto 1. It's already an outstanding synth.

Well, maybe ignore the wassocks here and go straight to the dev:
"Aalto 2 will be a free upgrade from version 1 if you have purchased your license within the previous 12 months."
So, you're good.

If the dev says that those who purchased in the last 12 months are entitled to a free upgrade, then yes, I am just as much as entitled to it as anyone else who purchased in the last 12 months.the_eraser wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 5:47 am"It doesn't make any sense"??wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 1:23 am You're telling me that as only a 5 month old owner I'm not entitled to a free upgrade? If the dev says that in their FAQ, why coming here to cry in public?wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 9:39 am If the dev says that those who purchased in the last 12 months are entitled to a free upgrade, then yes, I am just as much as entitled to it as anyone else who purchased in the last 12 months.

Nobody's crying. Somebody told me I'm not entitled to an upgrade and I wanted to know why. Problem is a lot of people around here don't know what the f**k they're talking about and just talk out of their ass.the_eraser wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 1:47 pmIf the dev says that in their FAQ, why coming here to cry in public?wagtunes wrote: Fri Jul 24, 2026 9:39 am If the dev says that those who purchased in the last 12 months are entitled to a free upgrade, then yes, I am just as much as entitled to it as anyone else who purchased in the last 12 months.
