Tracktion 2 - excuse me for being cynical

Don't forget T2 is boxed product now distributed by a much wider reseller network.
$199 is the list price.
I am sure street prices will be lower in a month or two after it comes out.... but I won't wait ... I want it now.

i want it now too!
i think the most important points were made by lunch money i think in the first page.
NAS : like lunch money said - if they're not as interested in getting $200 software to record with themselves, then why would they even consider it? if they just need a scratchpad, then Tracktion 1 will be all they need for all of time. if i just needed a scratchpad to record ideas on, i could make do with the four-track cassette machine i have on my desk until it broke. it's not CD quality but it will always be able to record until it knackers.
Oh, but hold on, Tracktion 1 is BETTER than CD quality... and it won't knacker unless the computer knackers... (which would be expensive to fix anyway) ... and i seem to remember that my 4-track cost nearly £300... and i also get the suspiscion that tracktion is at least a little bit more flexible than this four-track...
so i agree with lunch money in wondering what the point that you're labouring is. if the features of Tracktion2 aren't enough to warrant a $200 price tag (for anybody) then they're perfectly able to stay with T1 and use that. Though, i wouldn't be too surprised if jules didn't do much more to T1 in terms of updates. he is under no real obligation to (this is the new version after all). it would surely be nice if he did, but not at all surprising if he didn't.

This thread changed into a discussion of whether LM or NAS is right?
I remember that Muzys was $150 when I bought it... close enough to Tracktion 2's $200...
Actually I was expecting T2 to be around $300-400, to be in the appropriate price range to accompany Mackie products... So it's still cheap

I think the 64 bit engine (possibly) and midi stuff and sends are cool. I could care less about the addons like plugins and quicktime and the hardware stuff is great for people with Mackie hardware but that benefits Mackie too as it means more people with Mackie hardware will be interested in T2. But in my opinion there should be a choice of versions for people who don't need all the excess stuff - sure a "producer" version with all the extras for people who want a studio in a box but there should also be an "express" version for people like me who just want a good sequencer and for the few things that bothered us like lack of sends and lack of good midi to work better. I have Reaktor - I don't need any of these plugins.floyd wrote:Well, the features they added come at a price: Quicktime, hardware and midi stuff, 64-bit engine, free commercial plugins (seriously, rmiv and slayer2 for FREE!? even assuming everything else sucks, thats pretty cool)

aMUSED, Exactly my sentiments.
I don't need the plugs or the video. I wanted bug fixes and the improved midi and propper sends.
Some of us asked about the possibility of 2 versions a long time ago, specially after video support was mentioned. Many of us didn't want to get stuck paying for that.

But imagine if the cut-down version was $199 and the 'Producer' version was.. oh... $230?
Would it still disappoint?
Hey, I don't need or want QT support, either... and I could have lived without the plug-ins even though I'm happy to have both the Amplitube and the RMIV plugs. But my point has always been that it's a fairly priced upgrade without any of that stuff.
Forgetting about ALL that stuff (feature lists, speculation, etc.) I'm just looking forward to trying out the new interface itself.

i don't really need the plugs either, as i turn to reaktor for almost everything. what it doesn't give me is the stuff tracktion does for me, and i'm personally excited about almost every new feature, especially quicktime. i'll be buying it on launch day and that's all i need to know.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

I think some of you guys would pay $600 and wonder why others aren't happy.
You must be great at a market place. "You want HOW much? 100? No way, you'll take 150. I know what it's worth. No, No, I insist on paying 175."

If you knew my financial situation, you'd know that isn't true.
EVERY component I have in my studio is at the budget price level even though I've been a musician for 14+ years. I haven't bought Amplitube LE because it's still too expensive for me (luckily, I'll be getting it now!).
When I think something's a good price, I can honestly say that I'm looking at it from the perspective of someone who has NO extra money to waste.

But i really hope he does, because i don't want to feel in a situation where i'm considering buying t2 just to avoid the higher-pitched-audio-clips-not-rendering-properly bug in t1
Do you think there should be no obligation to fix bugs in t1? (if i were developing it i would feel obliged to do that).

If T2 gets crack, then that will be good & bad news of Jules!Nu Audio Science wrote:Tracktion CM sounds cool but on your other points your wrong ,The members of my band all twelve of them have their own studios that they record music in and would not find it very useful to have to go to somebody elses studio to use the sequencer ,Im sorry if your attitude is that if they cant afford it it isn't for them because ultimatly that is bullshit and we both know that ,The reason i say this is because if people cant afford it they will just go out and DL the crack and T2 will be cracked because of the hype surouunding it ,Now we can all sit here and say how terrible these people are and so on and so forth but the fact remains it will happen.
Still i can tell the others that T1 may well still get a little support via CM and thanx for the info.
Bad news is self-explainatory (despite that crackwarez are still illegal).
Good news because now we have a big 7 in the sequencing world:
Pro-Tools
Cubase SX
Logic
Sonar
Digital Performer
Live
Tracktion
In other words, Jules has hit the big time. We should be happy for him!!!

And then T1 became legally freeware (for a limited time anyway). So the cracks were a waste.Lunch Money wrote:T1 was already cracked.I don't think it's much of a measure of fame.
Greg
And BTW, Tracktion is pretty simple to use without a manual. And that is the formula the T2 must stick with at all cost.
But I believe that Live 4 is a better deal in the long run!
