How patient are you when you bring new gear home?

With acoustic guitars its best to let them acclimate to the new environment especially when they are shipped.

I don't freaking care when I've got that new stuff in the door. I want to use it now. Especially guitars. Nothing is sacred not the box it came in nor the bubble wrap padding.

Today is NGD and it's not arriving for another four hours at least. I'm not playing any of my other guitars leading up to the moment because I want to devote the rest of the day to playing the new guitar. Even I have days where I don't want to play guitar for 12 hours straight and I don't want to take away my guitar playing drive by playing one now.

For my acoustics I switched to carbon fiber. No need to worry anymore about temperature and humidity.

A carbon fiber guitar can be played immediately out of the box. And if it was properly tuned by the sender it will be still in tune even.

I have to say this.
If aio can import a guitar from Korea. Properly level crown and polish the frets have no sharp tangs roll the fretboard and provide quality hardware why can't Fender or Gibson? It was slightly over $500USD including shipping.

This thing arrived from SoCal to southeast Michigan which is roughly 2400 miles away in tune and ready to play. No neck adjustment, fresh strings all the parts properly tightened to the right tension.

So a couple of hours later...

It sounds closer to my 70's (all mahogany) LP custom than LP standards that I've owned, Even though it has a real maple top. it doesn't sound like a PRS by any measure.

I've achieved the trifecta.

Since we have about 50 Celsius difference warmest and coldest days of year in Scandinavia it depends when the item is shipped
- it goes for guitars or synths or any electronics as well
I give it half a day to get closer to room temperature before "approaching" it.

My Gibson 2007 LP Standard has a story about how they are as shipped, $2500 guitars?
- spent 3 days getting it enough, to even consider letting it be, uneven fretwires, action closer to 3mm than 2.
So made a detour to Stockholm a summer to Plek it, they have a machine there.
- things happend and guy in shop did not turn up as arranged, waited for 3 hours
- guy made silly excuses why late, there are phones and such these days
- so did not do the Plek, did not want to hear excuses why things "went wrong" with Plek again
- this was the most expensive instrument I've invested in
- so just continued car vacation and went back home instead

So years later I took the courage to do fret leveling myself, this after I did a total refret on another guitar.
- went very well, but did not have the best crown file, so did 3 frets a day only to get it right

A great guitar since, even if I changed tuners to Schaller Keystone as well which made wonders to tone as well. Tuners that are more like integrated part of head, than the vintage Kluson that is crap IMO. Went away with Grover on a 335 later over to Keystone, and there the weight made all the difference I believe, but also that sloppy bore of Gibson factory that made hole 0.6mm larger than it should be, so had some sheet copper to make it press fit.
- funny how many things interfere with tone of guitar
- Grover Tuneomatic 45g each, Schaller Keystone 21g.
- reminded of a documentary over violin builder, and how he carved headstock to change tone in instrument
- couldn't stand Burstbucker Pro, so DiMarzio PAF and Superdistortion now
- just stumped Gibson does not pay more attention to these things, even if pickups is more personal taste
- but now guitar is very personal since the work it took

Is that Gibson's philosophy maybe
- we sell you a basic good guitar, now you make it personal?
- took a little more than expected though

My newest Gibson LP Modern Lite is more "rocker" in my taste, and why I bought it. Had a LP Special with HBs 10 years ago that I wanted again. So Moder Lite do that job well. Half price compared to LP Standard.
- perfect with Laney Ironheart Studio

And LP Standard for that more bluesier lovely richer tone that is a joy to hear even acoustically, nice build those guitars.
- So perfect with Marshall Silver Jubilee Mini.
- powerful as anything guitar

Strat Original '50s now with 57/62 pickuops more and more feels like "home" with Fender Blues Junior TBH.

Shawbucker Tele goes anywhere and do well. Also a guitar that feels lovely just strum acoustically even, such great build. Shawbucker is rather low output. Goes between LP Modern Lite and LP Standard a bit in tone I would say. A workhorse to use at any time with any amp.

Over time these "pairs" are carved out as obvious couples to get what's in my head that I want.

LP Modern Lites are closer to Les Paul Juniors due to the all mahogany thinner body.

I'm getting very close to that sound with my KLP45 FM
After playing through all my LP standards and Customs (customs used to be all mahogany)
On my prs looking but not sounding KLP I started digging into my back catalog of 70's "LP ish" songs. Like Journey with Neal Schon's Aria Pro II Blue Oyster Cult and others from that era with a thicker LP tone. It hits the signal chain hot even at lower volumes and has a tendency to muddy the high end. I'm thinking about a less invasive procedure before I swap pups. Like putting a 5 or 10 band eq before it hits the amp bringing up the highs and tapering off the low mids by a notch or two. As well lowering the input volume before the amp.

But for now I'm just going through my Pod Go presets.
I'll prolly build my own patches as time goes by as I'm finding just the stock Pod Go library and the user content on Line 6's CustomTone to be woefully inaccurate

I'm reluctant to take the plastic bags off of the tuners and I might invest in clear plastic stickers for the pups. Gold plating comes off with exposure to oil and sweat on fingers. Yes washing your hands before you play can reduce the effect but the more you play the more your fingers will oil and sweat up.
