After all, every other plugin I have ever bought for $0 during a free giveaway period has REMAINED fully functional and free to me, even after they started charging.

So for you not to be a total and complete liar, you would have to do the same, and honor everyone's "free" EightyTEN purchases with full, non-expiring licenses, like a RESPECTABLE developer does.

Yes, I am seeing the same issue with imported sysex presets. I have reported it to the developer and also sent them a similar video demonstrating the issue, since one can't be sure the developer is still reading this thread at this point.

I don't want to wade into the useless complaining in this thread, but I'll just say that I saw nothing unclear or confusing or misleading about the terms of the offer. I sent $10 during the beta period and got my license. There have been several updates and the developer has been quick to respond to my support tickets and issue updates.

I hope we can get back to constructive comments but I wouldn't be surprised if the developer has been chased away at this point.

At some point, once this product is more fully finished, I'd like to do a comparison between this, PG8X, and TAL J8X. I will say that I find the name EIGHTYTEN hard to remember, and hard to type! But I don't expect them to change it! And I much prefer the look of PG8X.

I will say that I find the name EIGHTYTEN hard to remember, and hard to type! But I don't expect them to change it!

100%. I have this and EightyTen...oops I mean EightyEight and get confused between them. I truly did mess up on the name there because I forget which is which. Eight for Jupiter-8 and Ten for JX-10. I even pull up the wrong one in my DAW.

But they sound wonderful. EightyTen version 1.0.14 sounds great and includes a bunch of new patches. I was going to test the SysEx import based on the reports, but I got so sucked into the new tones/patches that got added I totally forgot. They sound terrific.

I did use the SysEx import in 1.0.12 and had no issues, but wanted to test if anything had broken in 1.0.14. I am on Windows 11, though, so maybe the import issue is with Mac.

The answer is nothing. They gave their donation thinking they were supporting the development of free software, and then got their “free” software yanked out from under them.

Why? Because it never was actually free software, and their “donations” were taken under false pretenses.

I already wasn’t going to support this dev’s irrationally angry, defensive, sometimes threatening behavior, but gave them the benefit of the doubt maybe they were maybe just antisocial.

But now it’s pretty clear they are actually shady. Just always evasive, and when they aren’t, they lie. They dodged the free questions, they pretended it was laughable the beta could be remotely blocked, then they did it? lol. I’m sure they justify it to themselves somehow, but that’s not how you run a business. People aren’t entitled to free, but it’s the weird back and forth policies and the dev acting like they don’t understand the difference between what they did and the way literally everyone else does, and acting like they aren’t in control of how they run their business (other people made me do it).

What’s funny, is this beta was released after like 4 days of porting and tweaking previous work; fair enough, they stated they’d been working on similar elements for years, but then they go to “official” release within days after?! It’s impulsive.

The beta has already had many little tweaks, has more to go and has documented bugs, why wouldn’t they have just leave the beta free (for those who already downloaded it under the free pretense)? Any frequent users would have upgraded to the better version eventually.

Shady dev, and it’s amazing people defend it. I know there are real users who are fans here, obviously, but I’m also fairly certain Morphoice has alts so he can unleash without it being tied to him anymore. He went from tirades to backing down right as other random users coincidentally came to the defense using a similar tone. Some phrases others have used are almost identical to ones he used in a previous thread, like the comment about “What specific gear have you compared it to? Do you own the hardware?”, and some of the more aggressive name-callers, who for a lack of a better word, acted strangely erratic and childish. They seem a little to close to this dev’s unique personality and tendency to lash out.

So the dev rushed this release, mislabeled it’s status to promote it, and claimed it couldn’t and wouldn’t be ended. Also, they basically threatened/implied libel charges against someone who said the “felt cheated”, which I’m pretty sure is not a “serious legal claim, like Morphoice said, it was literally their subjective opinion. The dev basically threatened physical violence against someone when he said “you’re so tough behind a keyboard, but in the real world you’d find out quick”. The dev is also trying so hard to keep bugs and hardware differences out of the public forum by saying “send a support ticket”, when those issues literally happen to the biggest devs, there’s no need to try to quarantine issues like that. It’s just part of the process and not personal (yet they act like it is).

I wouldn’t have cared and literally did wish them well, but ending the free beta after saying you wouldn’t, even laughing saying it’s not a thing that happens, then doing it is beyond weird. I feel bad for the fans of the plugin but why this dev keeps digging a hole and going deeper into a feud with the handful of people that bother to engage I don’t understand.

First of all, those who donated $1 or $5 or $9 got to use the beta, just like everyone else did--it was a "donation". Those of us who paid $10 or more (I paid $15 because I appreciate that he supports Linux) got a serial number authorization for the full version. So what if the betas were time limited--they worked while they were still betas, and people got to use them during the beta time period. You're making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Edit: I really don't get what point you are trying to make. The promise that those who donate $10 or more get the serial of the finished product was kept. The betas worked while they were betas, and you got to use them for free. No one promised you that you'd get to keep the betas unlocked and free forever. It really sounds to me like you are whining because you thought your beta would last for ever. Be honest. Did you donate ANYTHING to Morphoice? If you didn't, you really need to let this go.

Do you have evidence that the software was remotely blocked, and was not just a free and uncrippled beta with a built in timeout?

Yes, just like any demo. But honest, reputable devs don’t call their paid software “free” just because they offer a 2-week fully functional demo (EightyTEN was fully functional for only 1 week), and they don’t solicit “donations” to support their software under the guise of it being “free” because there is a time-limited demo.
