Cubase SL more powerful than T2? You must be joking.

It has somefeatures that T2 don't have, but then again, T2 has some very powerful features SL don't.
T2 has a drastically better workflow than Cubase. There is a reason why the latest incarnations of Cubase has copied elements from Tracktion.

T2 ships with way better VSTs.

E.g. T has better ReWire support, no limit on the number of VSTs or inserts (except for those imposed by your CPU) and "Pro" mixing/mastering tools in the guise of Final Mix.

Oh and, T2 is most likely less prone to be released half finished full of bugs. Now that Mackie is involved it is out of the so called "public beta" stage.

Cubase on the other hand is known for being released too early with as many new bugs as new features.

I agree with your thoughts on SL vs T. However, this bit about being out of beta is slightly ironic, considering the T2 announcement mentions a public beta period starting after NAMM. Didn't read it very carefully, eh? ;)

As far as I am aware the public beta phase will end before T2 hits the shelves. No one will be paying for the public beta.

In fact, the public beta more likely means less bugs for the paying customers.

What I was referring to above was the frequent updates and bugfixes that were standard before Mackie got involved. This period has sometimes been referred to as "public beta", even though as far as I know it wasn't.

So I did in fact read this bit

I just hope the MIDI editing and manipulation is as good as they make out... I wonder if it can perform "Logical Edit" type changes (halving/doubling tempo, transposing a selection, group velocity manipulation, etc) as versatile as the old-fangled MIDI sequencers. Is there even a drum editor yet? Even Samplitude has one now. MIDI editing was the major weak point for Tracktion 1 for me and the reason I've stuck with SX3, that and a lack of a mixer (without investing in a Mackie control surface or having to wire one up manually).

Still, looks like significant progress. The plugin bundle (except for Final Mix) would make no odds to me - most of it is cut down (Sampletank SE) or free stuff (TickyClav for example) - but if it entices more users it's all good.

Ahhh nothing like a good host war to get the blood flowing. I've never tried Tracktion so I can't comment one way or the other. Didn't Mackie allow free downloads of T1 for a while? I should have grabbed it while I could just to see what all the fuss is about. :D

f**k me.

I start this thread and overnight its got huge!! :-o

I hope i didn't stir up too much shit, and frankly i can't even slightly be assed to read all 6 pages so i'll just assume you all had good family fun and debated the finer points of...erm...stuff. In a civilised manner.

:hihi:

Like that'd happen around here. Civilised debate?!

goin ot but you can already halve/double tempo of midi on a clip basis, just alt-drag the clip length adjuster, and it stretches the midi. that's not what anyone wanted to know tho, so i'll continue the insertion of my arms into my coatsleeves and shall shortly be off
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Err, no, I did, cheers... Thanks for the tip.

Believe me, I'd like Tracktion to work for me... I love the rack filter concept, but it just wasn't quite there for me in V1.

I love fruity. I got the free tracktion thing and used it for a bit. I just couldnt get used to it. I used to use SX 1 but I exchanged it for other goods and services (not those kind of services) and now I'm cubaseless.

Just remember, we don't know the full featurelist yet, or all the plugs that come with T2. And, with public beta, it's more probable to be a stable app. For me(and many, many others), it's already the most stable sequencer I've ever used. Cubase(any version) doesn't even compare in stability. And bugs? Well, I did come from Cubase before Tracktion, and T is FAR less buggy than any version I'd ever used of Cubase(I used from version 3.7 to SX 1, and Cubasis).

I'm confident that Mackie aren't done yet with letting us know what's coming. Whether they let us know slowly or all at once, I'm sure it won't dissapoint. And for most, $199 isn't very high at all when it comes to value.

Total lameness not to have a drum editor, the samplitude 8 had a great looking drum editor.

Disco.
