Ask him to tell his wife (Suze De Marchi) to release another album. Or better yet do another Baby Animals album. Best Australian band ever. What a shame they only did 2 albums.Squids wrote:Hey, I am sitting in with Nuno Bettincourt tomorrow night.

If I did that he'd say "Oh, are you a fan?" and I'd have to say "Actually, I have no idea what I just was talking about"morelia wrote:Ask him to tell his wife (Suze De Marchi) to release another album. I still think it's ridiculous. For a few euros more, you'll get the UAD-1 or Powercore DSP products, which have excellent amp sims. What IK multimedia excels at is advertisement, PR and painting pretty pictures of amps on their UI. I do not debate that their stuff sounds decent, by the way!

Honestly? Nigel is not so great but I agree that the rest of the UAD is phenominal and everyone should get one if they can. But, it's a whole different thing COMPLETELY. Not even close. Not EVEN close. Now, granted you are not here checking out with me in person and I don't even know you but I bet you'd be impressed. The pretty GUI is only there BECAUSE the models were so accurate that IK (who rarely does that fancy stuff... that we all like on our GUIS) decided to give them the look and feel too (not the other way around - TRUST ME! Look at AT1! Did you ever know there were Vox and Marshalls in it? Nope. But, now with AT2 you sure know it! Both in sound and in look. Works for me.

Can we assume there will be an upgrade from AT1 Squids ??? At 2 does sound veerrry inticing.
Also, would there be some way of interfacing the wah (or volume for that matter, a la Steve Hackett) with a pedal?

I wonder if it's any good or not?Squids wrote:It's completely amazing. It is phenominal. It sounds better than any amp modeling I have ever heard. Blows away everything I've heard so far apart from a real amp . That sweet tone you get is there! It's in a whole other ballpark. It should be twice the price or more for what it does.

Amplitube 2 looks great and I'm really to believe it sounds fantastic too.
The question I'm asking is, why do none of these super-duper virtual amp-fx-microphone modellings Ribbon microphones ?
When I do a guitar amp recording, I always go strait towards the closest ribbon mic I find, and often double it up with some other kind a few feet away.
The colour you get with ribbon mics is totally different, and so much easier to mix with.
I'm sure IK could ask Steve Albini to send the a few mics for some emulation try-outs

Guitar Amp Sim /Distorion is the one area where I still think hardware is superior. My Johnson J Station gives me all the sounds I want and is portable. I just throw it in my gig bag and off I go. I suppose I could buy a laptop to run Amplitube but......Then there is the issue of latency, cpu load etc with software. I just hook up the S/PDIF out of the J Station to my 24/96 and boom-digital signal.

AWESOME!!!! Nuno is one of my all time favorite guitar players. I grew up learning the guitar by playing almost everything he does on the Pornograffiti album.Squids wrote:Hey, I am sitting in with Nuno Bettincourt tomorrow night.

Will he be playing Amplitube?

I noticec a lot of guitar players really like him. He's the MD for the main act. I am the MD for one the opening act. He's actually a Yes fan too so we had a situation where we both learned Long Distance Runaround and weren't sure which was going to do it with Jon. But, my back up band is the full progressive Spock's Beard drummer/vocalist and Squids' virtual Wakeman/Banks Sonik Synth 2 thing so... he's doing another one with Jon Anderson later in the night. I think I may be sitting in on than too so I am still practicing. I haven't slept. I am sure I will be a zombie on stage. Oh well. People will probably just think I'm wasted even though I'm just incredibly tired. This is a lot of work. But, the best work in the world so... no sleep it is! (or semi-sleep where the lights are on and you close your eyes but who knows if that counts?)megl wrote:AWESOME!!!! Nuno is one of my all time favorite guitar players. Oh, he will probably be playing through all kinds of gear but there will be a few AmpliTube rigs running through Atomic amps.

Well, me, I'm still very sceptical. Like some people have said here already, I agree that hardware amp modelling (even if it's really software) is still light years ahead of software amps (and real amps are still light years ahead of the best modelled amps). My old yamaha DG stomp does a better job of "feeling" playing the guitar trough an amp than any of the software, and I've tried em all with good input levels using my dbx 376 pre-amp that has a proper instrument input. I've also ran the amp models with a 128 sample buffer at 96khz to get latencies around 1ms. Still didn't help.
