I have songs with no plans of commercial release, so this might be fun. Back to the legalese, though-- assuming the remixer wanted to release the joint project on a commercial basis: I understand that I'd forfeit my right to control that decision, but would I still be entitled to my share of the profits/royalties?

Not that I think anything would ever come of it, but it helps to have your bases covered.

to my knowledge you are not entitled to royalties, unless an agreement is made between yourself and the other party. the way I understand the agreement is that the only right to the remix you have is the same as the remixer: unfettered release rights, with the condition that both the remixer and the original artist MUST be credited.

kinda like an equal opportunity venture thingie. you both can release it on cd and potentially make tons of money. if one of you makes more money than the other... that falls under "tough luck".

but I've not remixed anyone or met any fellow remixers who were making a living at this, so its kinda moot ATM.

it wouldn't be a traditional remix, by any means, but I think it could work. as long as you were prepared for someone to turn it into a latin dance track, or mamba-funk fusion.
