I do not miss nothing at all! I just sold off my whole studio switched from Mac to PC and sold

Roland JD-900
Roland SRV-330
Roland SDE-330
Ensoniq SQ-R
General Music S2R
EMU Proteus World 3
Yamaha TX81Z

and the list goes.....

We are at the end of an era the hardware synths are losing the battle like when the jet airplane hit the set you just cannot go back to a prop plane. With MIDI and Audio over LAN (ethernet) and total recall of your projects in Nuendo or Cubase SX and new software like FX Teleport. I cannot see the hardware surviving. I can get 48 stero track 96 mono no way can I go back to Tascam DA-88!

Mac Software list is to limiting and the price is even more limiting! So I had to go to PC. Also with hardware synths you were limited to only a few companies like Roland, Korg etc......

In my latest studio there is no hiss only 15 cables and many many synths over a 5 PC network. No Midi cables and or even interface just the built in one for the PC!

I think going back to me would be limiting in my creative works and in the day where you need to make the best recording you can to compete with major studios SSL and NEVE recordings this is the best and cheapest solution.

Even in a live gig I can just take one PC and use the very same VST setup I used to record it, all in a compact non back cracking PC with effects to boot!

And the last final note all my hardware gear I works very hard to get it worth nothing I lost allot on my investment. Atleast with software synth I wil not lose so much as the cost is not as high as the Hardware. I will not buy anything hardware in effects nor module as soon as you walk out the door with it the value will drop like a comet!!

Well I guess you miss the whole point of what I was trying to make! I have much more gear that I care to list but the point was I was posting about was why I switched and why I do not miss my gear. I did not post to have judgement pass about how my gear is not to your creative taste! Whew!!!

I agree about the good instruments will never disappear how ever we were talking about gear we missed and why we did or did not.

But old synths and hardware is on the way out I do not expect you to agree but it is my feeling on the subject.

Peace

MW

Would love to list of glorious gear you have so that I can better understand what bad gear I had:)

I miss my Arp Odyssey. :(

It was like driving around in a 20 year old BMW, but you still say 'It's a BMW!'

peace to you, too! :)
my post wasn´t ment like a "my eqip is better than yours" - don´t feel offended!
I´m trying to give you some examples of what I ment..

Fender Rhodes -nothing can replace its special key action and dynamic response, even if a soft-emulation sounds damn real, same for the Wurlitzer Piano and the Hohner Clavinet.
Hammond Organ, Roland SH09, Super JX, VP330 Vocoder, Moog Prodigy, Minimoog Voyager,Sherman Filterbank, Virus...even my crappy melodica..all those instruments with its very own strenghts and specialities...for me not replaceable with software.

I´m also use alot of software, but half of me is a vintage/analog-fanatic, so I think we shouldn´t carry on discussing this - everyone has its own favours and ways to do music and I respect your way and feelings.

peace, mo
