Hi Luna,
I posted recently because I was thinking about getting Sonar 4. But finding information on Cubase (especially from Steinberg of all people!!!) was like finding a needle in a haystack. Especially finding info about MIDI editing.
Good reading, thanks.

It kinda irks me that there are no clear winners in a shootout like this, as they both are almost head to head, with pros on each side. It makes it very hard for anyone to choose one over the other. I use Sonar 3 PE, and my friend uses Cubase SX 2, and we both do things on each other's rig and find things we wish we had in our own. I really hate that.
Ceenda - hey, good to see you here. I wonder why Balistic, Hamster, Shizo..etc aren't here as well.

Hey, though, at least you know that neither one of you made an obviously bad choice.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

I'd say Cubase takes the cake (excuse the pun). Sonar's only really important advantage mentioned in the articale is DXi support and really that's not that important to me. My personal thoughts are that the one thing that Sonar can do that I really wish Cubase could do was drag and drop reordering of insert effects. I'm sure there are a few more but that is what comes to mind at the moment.

More important to me is which one does what easier and has a better way of doing it. I guess that's all a matter of opinion though so they couldn't really do a fair comparison based on opinion. Featurewise, they both cover the vast majority of things and they both have an Ace or two up their sleeves. In the end, I choose Cubase. It has more of what I believe I like but there are definately things that I believe Sonar has figured out better than Cubase.

Not being able to Re-order inserts drives me crazy. Suprisingly, it would take less time for me to crawl behind my Rack and reorder inserts than it would to do it in Cubase. But... you just roll with the blows.fizbin wrote:I'd say Cubase takes the cake (excuse the pun). Another feature that Calkwalk AND Reason have that I'd like to see more of in Cubase is 'Midi Learn'. Going into the Generic Control config to assign a midi knob to a slider\cutoff\anything is a pain in the ass and a waste of time. I only do this chore if I really need to.TeeLangSun wrote:More important to me is which one does what easier and has a better way of doing it. Sonar doesnt use a dongle, which is better than any feature that cubarse could muster.fizbin wrote:I'd say Cubase takes the cake (excuse the pun). I like my dongle...my PC doesn't seem complete without it.
That's what they make sockets on PCs for...for plugging things into them. I was kind of hoping SX4 might have 2 dongles
