Hi all
Just recieved a CD from an M42 user , Tony ..rather Anthony Paul Kerby( from Canada) and had a listen to "The Circular Ruins, The Alchemy Concert". He used multiple M42 nebulas in the mix and all performed live..amazing stuff!
Multiple rythms going in and out of each other in a tapasty of sound and color. Small details, voices intersparsed in the mix which takes you on a journey of rich diversity.
Info here on the CD as well as MP3 excerpts
http://www.databloem.com/0_TCR.htm
Go to the bottom, as it was just released, and awaiting reviews. The MP3's are there so you can have a listen.
Tony: if you are there, we would love some comments on how you incorporated M42 in this excellent music!
Its one of my fav albums at the moment! This is staying on the CD player for a long time!

Thanks for the comments, Tim. Glad to hear you like the album ... thought you would
I did have 2 x M42 setup (in Console) and used two midi keyboards, but primarily used just one M42 on most of what you hear, sometimes with a split keyboard so I could play rhythm with the left and lead with my right. You will often hear changes in the sound but that is not another M42 kicking in, it is usually me switching to a different sample for OSC2 and sometimes a different wave for OSC1 -- I love that ability to switch sounds mid track/mid lead/wherever without glitching that you get with wave-based synths.
I was also using a couple of other hardware synths during the performance to get some different lead sounds and noises going at the same time, but as you can hear all of the rhythm work is pretty much M42, many of the leads too. Leads sync so well in the M42 if you have a good arp rhythm patch going, and the short lead notes also affect the arp a bit giving more variety.
I also had a friend along triggering samples and hitting switches on midi controllers, and holding down some chords and notes for me.
The whole thing took a heck of a lot of planning and working out what patches etc. to use when. Its all played live -- no pre-recorded sections. I was just using a written cue sheet to tell me what sort of things to do in each track.
I've played things on the M42 where people listening can't believe its just one patch I'm playing -- you can get some fascinating swirling rhythms and cool leads over the top. Of course it helps to have it mapped to a midi controller and have 3 hands !
Cheers.

Thanks for the response Tony! It seems like you did a lot of live tweaking in the playing..but no glitches, all very smooth. Can't wait to see the reviews when they start coming in for the page.
To be honest..it was a bit emotional for me to actually hear the DR and my efforts being put to "proffessional" use. People are actually making music with it. We could not hope for more. Looking forward to any of your other M42 pieces.

Last night I had an excellent Sky Observing session and used this music as I was observing. It really enhanced the experience! M42, M43, M41, and some nice star filds and clusters and double stars. This is Deep Sky Music!

Hi Tony. No reviews yet? I have been watching. I still play this CD quite a bit. Excellent M42 work! Also to bump it up if M42 users have not heard this yet. A MUST HEAR!!
