I was not aware you could make a quad channel group! I will see if I can figure this out when I get home. Can't wait to check out your plug when it's done. Looks really nice. You need to use a quad channel group - that is a 4 channel bus. So you have stereo for the sidechain and stereo for the audio.
I believe the link tibenmik provided gives a good description of the process. If not - let me know and I'll see if I can explain better.

True stereo side-chaining (i.e. Voxengo Crunchessor) didn't work for me in CubaseSX.
I solved this with buying the cheap energyXT host just for this application. It's really easy to do here.

I thought it seemed really easy to do it in SX as wellPeterL wrote:True stereo side-chaining (i.e. Voxengo Crunchessor) didn't work for me in CubaseSX.

I will try it again tonight. Thanks.stefancrs wrote:You probably should put it on a four channel bus and route the stereo signals to that bus. No it doesn't work with two stereo tracks. If you route the 2 stereo tracks to a LRCS group, the 2 tracks appear only MONO in the group. Maybe (I'm sure) it works with mono channels, but sorry no true stereo sidechain possible in SX. If anyone find a solution, please post DETAILED routing here. Thanks.PeterL wrote:I will try it again tonight. Thanks.stefancrs wrote:You probably should put it on a four channel bus and route the stereo signals to that bus. http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=731515But before you get carried away, best to read this post [from the Cubase.net forums - scroll down the one dated 'August 10, 2004'] first. In summary, when sending stereo tracks to quad groups always make sure that 'Y-mirror mode' is selected in the 'Mo./St' parameter box within the SurroundPan setup for the sent track (double click the track's pan box in the mixer to open the SurroundPan window). Although the manual states otherwise, Cubase defaults this parameter to 'Mono Mix' instead of 'Y-mirror mode', so a manual change is necessary. Also make sure to set the grey panning balls in the SurroundPan window to 100% left and right. These changes will ensure that the stereo imaging for the track is retained when sent to the quad group.

Thanks very much stefancrs (will give it another try). Never heard/read before of the Y-mirror mode, because I skipped the whole surround chapter in the manual. Hopefully this mode is implemented in SX2, because I don't have upgraded to SX3.

In a studio a saw Btech compressor or so, never saw this plugin again. Dont even know if i got the name right. It has a sidechain plugin and compressor pluging, the sidechain channels can carry 99!! channels... Now if somebody knows the real name of this plugin?

Yes (oh wonder) it works !ericj23 wrote:defintely works - thank you for the info
i didnt use sends tho - i just outputted the track to the bus - then you set up the sidechain channel as the above post
Using prefader-send on the trigger channel (kick-drum) instead of routing it directly to the Quad-Group has its advantage:
- You have independent control of volume fader for the kick-drum channel
- If directly routed, you can't hear the kick-drum anymore (if the Quad-Group is routed to a Stereo Out Bus).

If you mean BGTech Sidechain Compressor, it's not available as VST anymore (was ported to Buzz).dvdvelde wrote:In a studio a saw Btech compressor or so, never saw this plugin again. Full marks to the BGTech compressor... proper sidechaining. No need to arse about with quad channels, routing to various busses or anything like that: just stick the sidechain on one channel and then the compressor on any channels you want to run off it. And yeah, if you want to sidechain off multiple sources, you can stack up the sidechain sources.
And unlike TC Native's version, it doesn't 'forget' the configuration when opening or closing a project.
Winner, thanks guys

you can do this without monkeying about too much
quad bus
two stereo child channels
send to the second is the key
send to the first is the compressor
and it sounds good
