I do get a free copy of course. But, I'd have bought it if I had to. This is something I will really make a lot of use out of. I like Amplitube 1. It's impressive sounding. I was never a fan of the GUI and prefer the GUI of the AT LIVE personally. The GUI of AT2 though is just SWEET as is the sound. I've been one to use real amps most of the time to be honest. AT2, however, really feels closer to real amps than anything I've heard modeled before from any of the stuff mentioned. There comes a point where it gets so close that you feel like using it as much as you would a real amp.S_A_P wrote:Yeah but squids gets a free copy, so he is biased.Squids wrote:Okay. You want to know the truth? AmpliTube does sound better in a lot of cases. Not all. Guitar Rig is not quite as good on the modeling but the extra bells and whistles make it more appealing perhaps. But, AmpliTube 2 on the other hand I have come to the point now where I feel it is far beyond any of the amp modeling out there. I have been an amp and stomp box collector. I've spent thousands of dollars on that stuff and there was a reason- to get the authentic sound of certain guitar players (and to have a great guitar sound in general). AmpliTube 2 is the FIRST amp modeling that makes me actually think that I don't need to own as many real amps and stomp boxes. It has the tone I am looking for when recording yet has all of the flexibility you get from the individual modeled components.
So, if you were to say AmpliTube 2 vs. Guitar Rig I think that there is a big difference. Kontakt 2 I think is great and Battery 2 I am excited about. But, Guitar Rig is not the same level excitement to me. AT2 is full on. I cannot wait until it is out. I will use this on everything. Really.

Yes, I know. That's all I can think about now. Sorry. But, with regard to Amplitube 1, the modeling IS better than Guitar Rig. The bells and whistles and GUI are better in Guitar Rig. That's opinion of course but actually not just mine. I am pooling a number of respected guitar players I've talked to that concur. Remember, I am not against NI. In fact, I am friends with them and support several of their other products which I have a lot of love for. I don't hate Guitar Rig by any means but it lacks certain things that AT1 has and visa versa. Compared to AT2 however is another story. But, I know that isn't what this thread is meant to be about. I'm already hooked on it though as you can see.Jaeson Merrill wrote:yes, youre talking about AT2, not AT1.Squids wrote:Okay. You want to know the truth? AmpliTube does sound better in a lot of cases. this is Amplitube (version 1) vs. gutiar rig.
in that case, guitar rigs modeling AND bells and whistles are better.

it so much depends on the guitar playing style and expectations.
amplitubes modeling works for some sounds but it's total crap for metal tones. as far as i remember the plexy stuff is ok. but if amplitube2 still has the same basic sonic character it will be very hard to beat the incredibly versatile current line6 sims. (not the old pod, that one is getting old a bit)

I think it comes down to taste really. I've been A/B'ing extensively as I want to make a purchase this year for something I can use with my DAW. Judgeing by the NAMM video, AT2 has similar sonic character to AT1 (or it could be my cheapo computer speakers, but I thought I recognized the AT sound).
So far I'm amazed how AT1 can 'model' say a sound on particular Hendrix's song or almost anything and you say 'yea, I remember that sound'. It seems to be the best choice available for cetain styles, like 80's guitar rock from my perspective at least. But despite the great 'modelling' there always seems to be an 'aftertaste'. Something that's in all the sounds that's subtle but 'plastic-y' for lack of a better term. Like when you order chinese take-out food and everything thing on the menu has a subtle undesired aftertatse. But for some reason IMO, Guitar Rig seems to suffer much less 'aftertaste' and that's why I'd prefer it of AT1, but I do mostly clean jazz & funk(or at least attempt to) and GR seems much more transparent to my ears.
That being said I have to get down a store on an uncrowded day and give Vox tonelab a good testing. I heard it briefly and remeber liking it for clean stuff despite a 'compressed' sort of sound but I didn't mind it.
Also read Yamaha released a MagicStomp2, how come I never see anything on this, does this box not interface with DAW's like say a POD or a Tonelab?
Thanks

It took me about a year to make amplitude sound perfect.. A real metal sound, the guitar sound is even better than on my bands album (and yes, the guitars are recorded in a professional studio).. I've played around with Guitar rig at my friends studio and I was very disappointed.. Maybe you need to fully learn how Guitar rig works before you can get a decent sound out of it..
I will buy Amplitude 2 whenever it gets out

I've tried GR and the interface is fantastic, and so is the flexibility. At the end of the day many people need four or five sounds only - if you can tweek your toys to produce those sounds, it is likely that you won't use 95% of what GR or any other plug in offers. My vote goes for the Johnson J-Station:

I have used it for 5 years and has both clean and distorted sounds which IMHO slightly exceed what is available from the admitedly beautiful GR

Yes- I am using spid/f with excellent results. Maybe someday I will finish a song and post it in music cafe...Lunch Money wrote:Not to mention SPDIF (is that right?) digital output instead of analog.
I REALLY wanna get me one of those J-Stations... but if I get my lust-on for Amplitube 2, I'm better off saving my money....

I think the fact this this is still being debated says it all. Amplitube has been out for what - two years? And it's still rivalling everything else that coming out now. Not saying it's the best (that's personal taste I think) - but it's clearly good enough to be still battling up there two years on.
And AT2 is going to be way better than AT1.
Forever,
Kim.

yeah time for Tunes to jump in here. i have not really heard much of guitar rig. i am a guitar player and i am a fan of this whole amp modelling craze in general because i hated lugging my princeton chorus around when i was growing up and i never mic'd the thing once and my sound used to suffer.
amplitube 2 is THE solution. it offers so many options that were not in AT1. i was really caught off guard when i saw it at namm this year, although i saw some teasers in the IK animated GIF. all i know is the pros that were playing it loved it and the jams were smoking hot at the IK booth because of it. they all kept coming back cause they wanted to play it more.

Well, there are different models. I agree you can't say every aspect is better. It's probably not good to generalize. There are more models and combinations in AmpliTube. I use AmpliTube quite a bit and it's good. I don't think I lose any credibility considering it HAS won 11 awards and guitar players are constantly telling me they love it. As I said, I don't dislike Guitar Rig. I don't think I could say I dislike ANY NI product. They do the kind of products I like generally. This one just isn't as interesting and while some of it may sound good I don't hear the same reaction from guitar players I know or work with. In fact, it's ironic but I am friends with one of the guitar players demonstrating for them and even he wasn't raving about it. (nice way to put it- he actually said worse).Nikgundam wrote:Sorry Squids, but, i'm a big fan of ikmultimedia, and i'm Italian too (Modena is near to meSquids wrote:Yes, I know. But, anyway, to be fair it's not like one can say definitely "the modeling is better" without it just being a sort of generalization, personal opinion kind of thing. So, if that balances my comment then there you go.
But, with AT2 you could maybe say that overall the modeling is more accurate than any of the emulators in software. Maybe that's still opinion but this was also a popular reaction this past weekend.
