Hi there Squids-

It is really awesome to have your support here!! Thanks for all your time!

On to my question: I have the good fortune of owning all the SR sound libraries for my Akai sampler and was wondering if Sonic Synth 2 contains all of those samples, brand new material or none at all? How much would you say is overlap and how much would be brand new data?

I appreciate your honesty here and helping us all out to make a purchase!!! BEST WISHES

About 1/8 are sounds from Sonik Synth 1, and the rest are all new.

Sonik Synth 2 has a lot of the original archives we used for Vintage Timetraveler and what was going to be Vintage Timetraveler 2 (and 3... ;) ) There's generally a sort of best of SR sounds thing going on with it even since Sonic Synth 1. But, there are many gigabytes of material that has in no form been released before as well. Then of course there is the particular patch programming and combis in ST2 format that won't sound like ANYTHING else we've done.

So, if you are asking me if it is worth the money even if you owned ANY and ALL of our previous SR titles then the answer is YES. It is. 8.5 gigabytes and 5,800+ sounds for $399 (or $199 temporarily as a crossgrade/upgrade if you own ST2 or SS1 owners). Even with some crossover instruments from different places I think that the value overall has enough room to make everyone happy regardless of what else they have from us. It's a really good deal for what you get.

i was playing sonik synth at the show this weekend but i just got to install it for myself. i am cranking out beats like it is 2001 when the first sonic synth came out- squids it was 2001 right?

you can hear some sounds from the past and those sounds that are repeated are part of the sonic reality signature, just like korg or roland have their signature from making new synths and adding features to them. but sonik synth 2 is a revolution. a sexy interface, very sexy, and all types of new sounds- the thing is bursting at the seams. there are all types of new elements, textures or waveforms they give you so that you can get your hands dirty and sculpt new sounds better than before.
i hear a drastic change in how all the keyboards and instruments are programmed. this definitely deserves a "2" in the title.

it is lush and dynamic. it is funkier than james brown on meth.

i have been using sampletank 2 since its release and i was able to jump into this without any learning curve. that's really important cause there are going to be many more plugins like this when miroslav and studiophonik come around - and it will be very easy for the users to keep up. that's why I love the IK engine, it was made for musicians like me.

for me, the thing that i will be able to take the most from sonik synth 2 compared to previous sonic reality products is that it delves into sound design more. this is a must have for film composers and people who lay down SFX in a movie/video game, or people who want to get into this art.

i think a fair bit of what i wrote is on topic with the thread. whatever isnt, oh well here's my first impressions of the product and prepare to hear more. the mothership has landed!

oh yeah my opinion is kind of bunk because i still havent heard so much of the synth. it takes forever to get through 5,000 sounds. there is no way that having the old SR libraries should deter someone from this one.

and i also dont own those old akai libraries that you speak of, but i kind of know certain things about the SR archives and how some sounds pop up in different places but with changes made. the ST2 engine opens lots of doors for making new sounds.

yeah i have a more up-to-date opinion

Sonik Synth 2 is way different than anything i've heard from SR before. they have fully taken advantage of the new engine and there are these noise elements and waveforms that let you start your own patches from scratch which i could never really do with the old ones. i used to love sonic reality pads and stuff but now i am free to construct new ones cause they break it down for you with individual sounds. you will be very impressed tdm.

there are also a ton of performance type patches that i started hearing when sampletank 2 came around and reason orkester library had them for a while, but now sonik synth features new ways to recreate having session players.

it really is going to be endless for me in discovering this baby.
