Thanks for listening kovacs. Here is the message.kovacs wrote:Col.G - Song For America
Cool backing and good drum track. The guitar surprises me - I find no overall idea, only a long, improvised solo. Nice sound effects. Then a lot of drums ranging from rock beats to military drums. I assume you have a message but I'm not able to read it. Sorry.
The backing represents the mundane but rock steady pace many americans feel as we move sideways through our lives. This is then interrupted by an unnecessary
angry and disturbing guitar solo which represents the also unnecessary anguish of war and despair which interrupts our lives, The end part represents the actual march to war and how many of us in America support our troops even though we don't support the war. Which puts many americans in an uncomfortable and stressfull situation. Which blows.
I guess you had to be there in my head as I was writing it. I was conflicted and confused at the time. Guess I still am.
Thanks for your review,
G.

Thanks for the review Mystahr.Mystahr wrote: Astanine - Can you please extend this to somewhere around 12 minutesThis somehow left me with the great desire to hear this extended even bigger. Still I must say that I felt it a build of two different tracks; for some reason I feel you should have kept some of the intro elements into the middle part for a bit more flow rather then the imo sudden change at 0.48 (or a shorter intro perhaps). Still the sounds and production were a treat to the ears

First of all, kovacs, I would like to thank you for your insightful and considered reviews in general. I know that such in-depth listening and comment requires considerable time and commitment (especially with 4 min entries) so, hats of to youkovacs wrote: Patrick9 - I Love The Music
Cheerful stuff. Excellent singing! Did you "rush" it as you implied in the gossip thread? I don't believe it for a second. this is a well thought-out song. I really like the difference in tone between the two vocal parts and the melody flows really well. The backing is subdued and never overpowers the vocals. If I have one gripe, it is that the crunchy guitar in the second half sounds slightly too sharp and could do with more compression or EQ (or both). But this is an excellent entry.
Thank you especially for the No.2 vote - a much needed boost to my flagging confidence.
As for the rush - I had done all the recording at the end of last week and hoped for an uninterrupted space on Monday for the final mix, mastering and submission. That was not to be and so I ended up in a mad dash to get everything together for the submission.
Thanks again. I'm going to sit back and have a good listen to all the entries and hopefully get some brief reviews in with my voting.
Thanks too to MarcJX8P for the vote - I appreciate it
Cheers, Pat

SecondSkin, I'm sorry you came in late. I really like that beat you got going in your song. I wouldn't mind hearing it with "some vocals and a few geetar chords."

Ahhh....Spiritualized...Verve...can the "O" word be far behind?Kojaks wrote:I disagree with you - it IS a pop song. Brit pop. ...reminds me of the Verve...
I do hope you mean Northern Soul era Verve...
Why not? You lot aren't doing anything with it, are you?People in Sunny CA should keep doing their stuff and not steal brit pop.
Chalk it up to convergent evolution...my CD collection is all classic pop (Beatles, Who, AM gold
Anyways, thanks for the review!

a few more
knockman - What an utterly great surprise this track was. The mood, the vocal, the sounds all seemed to suplement one another just perfectly. It's not the first choice of music I'd select for homeplay, but please tell me when the album is due
Wopelka - As all your tracks have done, so this one brings a smile to my face. Unique in the way you created this, as it makes it so vocally algorhythmic almost. I was quite impressed as well with the very 'real' drums. A lot of swirling motions going on which at times made me feel to be sailing softly rocking oceans where the sirens lured me. But instead of crashing on the coast I find myself on a fun island with great company.
Cold C - Not much to go on but to say that it was imo too short but very well layed out and produced. The sounds are nearing sharpness but are well controlled. I would not have guessed this to be the z3ta though.

Actually, reminded me more of the Stone Roses (Madchester beat and all!), cool tune. vocals are bit cavernous though..Sleek Month wrote:

and three more
Niko - Very punkish track that had some great guitar going on. The intro was quite delicious I felt. There's a few things about the vox though that to my ears could have been done better. The verses sound great, but then at 0.25 you are playing a bit with the stereo moving the voice left to right, not really a nit here, but more something I noticed. The screaming voxes came across as if they were too forced and didn't have the energy to jump at my throat. Great middle part there around 2 mins changing into an almost jazzy feel with a cool ending.
Markleford - Quite the amazing track and the amazing story behind it too. I very much like the idea of how this came about and with it showing two sides of your love for music. Execution and sound is just tops and furthermore this made me dance in my seat like a maniac. Highly impressed here
Col G. - I got to say that as this tune progressed I was more and more taken by the very talkative guitarplay. Talk about putting passion in a song. Love how this changed with the weird and unexpected sounds going on. There were a few minor digital(?) clicks happening in the first part which felt to not be part of it though. Other then that you created a surprisingly great song for this months contest
