For quite some time now, Ive dabbled with a fairly limited and quite dated piece of mind-map software that came on a magazine coverdisk. I'd hauled it out to try and sort out some 'what ifs' to do with various things, and thought I'd have a look on the web and see what else was out there...
and I discovered that someone has finally written a decently-featured free mind-map package. Its called FreeMind, its in Java, so its cross-platform, and GPL'd as well.
And actually looks pretty damn good, and seems fairly easy to use; much better than the package I've been using so far at any rate.
So I thought I'd bring it to folks' attention, since mindmapping can be pretty useful in any discipline...
You'll need v1.4 or later of the Java Runtime, and you can get it here:

I like to mindmap but modifying maps on paper is annoying.. :/

Is that legitimate? I certainly dont see that as a current product on the MindJet site.
Anyways, its one of the MindJet family I did have (eMindMaps). Dunno what that version is like, looks pretty similar to mine. But I find FreeMind slicker, and easier to use than eMindMaps, so it will do for me in the meantime....

Never even heard of a mindmapper - just had a bit of a play with FreeMind. Seems like a cool planning tool.
I always use Excel for planning things - but this seems easier to use actually. Might start using it for planning the writing of manuals, web pages, test plans and the like.
