Thanks, somehow it mixed up in my mind. :D I love Groucho, didn't he write Das Kapital too? ;)

No, you're thinking of "Max Capital". :hihi:

Thank you Mystahr. I hope I will continue to suprise :)

I agree with you that the song could do with a bit more attention - I think I'll work on it and post it at some later date in the Music Cafe.

Cheers, Pat

Mystahr wrote:Koorby - I don't know; this has your usual skill of piano play and a pretty good production, but for some reason I felt the piano so contained within just one octave too much throughout and one very oft used particular note (don't ask me which as couldn't tell, mostly the first note of a sequence). I am missing the playful excursions and rarely hear the piano progress to some high note sequences. Perhaps it is just me or perhaps I am putting a bit too high expectations on this, but it's how this comes across to me. Still that doesn't really make it a bad tune at all.
Thanks for the review Mark, cheers. The piano spans four octaves; and the single note repetition is by choice. (You need to listen to what my left hand is doing though, that's where the color is being added :) ) There's a song on the latest Michael W. Smith album (it was a Christmas present) and he repeats a single chord for about 10 bars; and it sounds just perfect. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

Mystahr wrote:Wopelka - As all your tracks have done, so this one brings a smile to my face. Unique in the way you created this, as it makes it so vocally algorhythmic almost. I was quite impressed as well with the very 'real' drums. A lot of swirling motions going on which at times made me feel to be sailing softly rocking oceans where the sirens lured me. But instead of crashing on the coast I find myself on a fun island with great company.
thank you for the entertaining and nice comments Mark. :)

the drum beat is a mix of some home-programmed DR-008 Yellow_Rockkit action (mainly kick-snares-percs) and a drumloop grabbed from a FM cover CDRom (mainly HH's).

cheers

Arglebargle and Kovacs! Thanks so much for the votes. I am floored as my track doesn't hold a candle to the entries I have heard so far .. for example YouTm and Knockman tracks shine like crazy. I hope I have some time to listen the the rest today. Damn job people are actually asking for info and stuff.

And in the knick of time

You TM - And just in time I found I had forgotten to review this one, as for some reason this was not downloaded to the folder. I am quite astounded as I've heard great things from you but listening to this I feel you've been holding out on us. Great building of atmospheres here in a most beautiful lay out. I am playing this hard and it even gets better. Great attention to detail and that final build getting in at 2.55 is like the proverbial topping on the cake. Now please make a full album with this.

Funny story, when I first listened to your song I disliked it. It felt way too random for me, as most jazz/fusion does.

But then I listened to it many times, and it grew on my quite a bit. I like the mix of jazz with those sorta electronic drums.

I don't listen to much jazz, so I guess I had to "get in the mood" to enjoy your song. :D

Thanks a lot for the votes Kovacs and Farlukar :)
Mystahr wrote: Niko - Very punkish track that had some great guitar going on. The intro was quite delicious I felt. There's a few things about the vox though that to my ears could have been done better. The verses sound great, but then at 0.25 you are playing a bit with the stereo moving the voice left to right, not really a nit here, but more something I noticed. The screaming voxes came across as if they were too forced and didn't have the energy to jump at my throat. Great middle part there around 2 mins changing into an almost jazzy feel with a cool ending.

Cheers :). I agree that the vocals could have been done better, but I was running out of time and then I generally need to practice singing some more
Anyway thanks a lot for taking the time to listen and review all the songs. I appreciate it very much.

Thanks for that Mark. I haven't been holding out, this kind of electronic music is what I've done the longest and it's probably the easiest for me which is why I've challenged myself to try new things like singing, arranging and pop music. I grew up with and am inspired by so much different music, but it was classic 70s electronic that made me want to make music rather than just listen passionately. One of my first records was an import copy of Stratosfear by TD. I already had Tomita and Carlos, but it was TD that really made me want to play. So this is partly a homage to that. As I grew increasingly impatient with my piano lessons as a kid, I always liked making up songs. I didn't learn much theory and being an artist, I've approached everything visually. I play by ear and follow patterns. The pattern for this was simple: use only black keys. I guess it's not so much pattern as a flow of black notes. So putting those concepts together, I thought I come up with a nice German name meaning dark path or flow. I discussed some ideas with Rsmus7 and he helped me arrive at the title "düsterer" which means dark or sinister and "strom" which despite being the name of an infamous US senator from South Carolina, also means a big river and is used as a word for electricity. The name was being considered right around when the tsumani in Asia happened and the multiple meanings of "Düsterer Strom" sealed it. So that's more info than you care to know but well, there it is...

Hmmmmmmmm, that was what I did with the organ too :)

You did mention something of same boats or other vessels ;)

It just crossed my mind wondering what would happen if we'd find ourselves in a studio together

btw; a very well sought out title. I must say that oft I read it as storm which I think isn't far off either for the track. Electric Storms :)
