best nine piece? I saw ZZtop 3 times, does that count?...
actually that's not true, I saw them 5 times, in fact one year (80 or 81) I was home on leave and saw them, Loverboy opened and made it maybe three songs. They got booed off stage, the guitarplay got hit in the head pretty bad with a bottle...18 months later I saw top again, and Loverboy again opened (when working for the weekend was popular)...this time it was night and day....more people were there to see Loverboy...
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

ZZ is shockingly awesome in concert. i was expecting some drunk biker-rednecks coming out in jeans and tee-shirts, passing out 1/2 way through the show becuse of a tequillia overdose.hink wrote:best nine piece? I dont think that GSY!BE are just the greatest nine-piece ever, I think that they are one of the greatest bands ever.
Their music still moves me to tears, fills me with hope, joy, anger, euphoria
The styles that they incorporate into the music is just breathtaking: Gorecki-style modern classical (in fact the opening sequence of Moya is called "Gorecki), Mariachi music, surf guitars, county music, musique concrete, found sounds, drone, metal, noise just blows me away
I love it that they are signed to a tiny record lable, do lovely packaging (espacially the vinyl versions) and are basically a collective.
And they only release albums, so its really easy to buy their stuff
Plus they encourage bootlegs of live songs.
And they fucken rock live

Their loft used to be a great, laid-back and comfortable performance venue a few years ago (did shows there myself in '99 and 2000 with MSBR and Kevin Drumm respectively)... they were forced to stop due to complaints, but they've still got a hand in the much smaller Casa del Popolo here.Bunnyboy wrote:GaryG wrote:Godspeed You Black Emperor!

They do rock live, though their (self-admitted) debt to Swans does show in spades.
