The end of the Oberheim Matrix series has come to it's conclusion with Classic Oberheim 3. This bank has over 50 Meg (uncompressed) of new samples and 64 new programs. This brings the total Oberheim waveforms to about 132 Meg and total programs to 192.

Using Rhino's sound engine the samples were shaped far beyond what the origional offered. Mp3 demos are available at: http://bigtick.pastnotecut.org/djsmaurer/

Sweet!

I know that Classic 2 required Classic 1. Does Classic 3 require both 1 and 2?

I'll probably wind up getting both 2 and 3 anyway :D

Edit: Whoa, oberimba, nylon strings, and awakening... sweet! Sanctus is nice too... sounds like a Hammond organ with percussion on, or perhaps with a bass player following the pedals.

Edit again: just re-listened to OB2 presets again - Earthsong and Minor Boy are my faves' there so far. for $12 each set, I can't lose.

Guys... what I can tell you is that CO3 is the best of the 3... so given the nice comments on the 2 first incarnations, this new bank is a must-have :-)

Excuse my ignorance, but the large size of the files would seem to indicate that Rhine is becoming a ROMpler...am i way ouy on this or not?

Im havent looked at it for a long time

Rhino 2 can use multisampled waves as oscs. So you could call it a rompler I suppose - but its really more of a synth with very flexible waveforms.

CO3 requires the purchase of CO1 and CO2 first since all the banks use a few of the previous banks samples. A bundle should be available by tomorrow; all three for only $30.00 USD.

I relied heavily on samples for this bank since I wanted the Oberheim banks to sound like an Oberheim. However, Rhino is so flexible that sounds can go far beyond what a ROMpler could offer. Using samples also has the advantage lower CPU consumption!

My personal favorite patch is Sound Logo.

Once again, Dan's the Man. These presets are monsters! As soon as I get some free time, 130MB of waveforms... woo-hoo!!!

Thanks man, and keep 'em coming.

i can hardly keep up with this rate of newe bank releases. i re-listened when th eOB 2 bank cam eout to the old Textures bank and have been at work with a couple of projects using that bank.

i will pick this up tonight.
Daniel you should take a rest now.

Daniel,

I can't imagine this happening more than a couple times in a life, but I'm going to go buy the bank without even listening to any presets/demos. Your work up to this point has been *so* good that I actually already know that I'll find musically useful patches.

Bye, gotta go buy...

Cheers,
Envoy

That's about the best compliment one could give; thanks. :D

Yeah, well I bought it and it sucks. Shows *me* something...

Not really - as usual, very cool and musical. How can I interest you in programming some Tera 2 patches???

Cheers,
Envoy

Throw lots of money my way! Nah... I only program synths that "connect" with me. Programming some synths (Rhino, Cameleon,...) is a joy, while programming others (S_____, _______, ...) is no more fun than a trip to the dentist to have that impacted tooth removed.

I haven't tried Tera 2 yet as the first Tera didn't fit my personal style. Mind you, it's a fine synth, just not fully to my taste. I'll download the T2 demo and try it for a few weeks and see what happens.
