I found them on the Cabinessence web page and here they are:

http://www.cabinessence.com/brian

Just go to the 'writings' section and click on the Mind of Brian links. Of great interest to Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fans and anyone who wants to be a pretty melodic pop composer. :D :D

I'm with the Parrott! Thanks! SMILE is "Wonderful."

As for Mr. Slater's Parrott...

"When Mr. Slater's parrot says 'hello'..."

(a Bonzos fan since 1977. And an American, no less!)

Amazingly, given the rudimentary design of the site, the page is using frames. That's why the link at the top of the browser doesn't change.

The direct link for "Writings" is
http://www.surfermoon.com/essays.shtml

The direct links for the "Mind of Brian" essays are:
Mind of Brian 1: God Only KnowsMind of Brian 2: The Lonely Sea
Mind of Brian 3: Good Vibrations
Mind of Brian 4: Surfer Girl
Mind of Brian 5: Fun, Fun, FunMind of Brian 6: The Warmth of the Sun
Mind of Brian 7: In My Room
Mind of Brian 8: Caroline No
Mind of Brian 9: Don't Worry Baby

Finding the hidden URLs for pages within frames is an old web designer's trick. And I'm a very old web designer. ;-)

Ah, it's great to see another fan the Bonzos (one of the greatest bands of all time) -- fantastic! :D

It was great to see your moniker. I was more excited about finding another Bonzos fan than about finding another analysis of Brian Wilson (and that's saying a lot!).

Back in college, a friend had the American triple-vinyl anthology HISTORY OF THE BONZOS, and he leant it to me after we saw MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR on our campus. (He said the Bonzos were the band playing "Death Cab for Cutie" in the strip joint).

Anyway, I bought the album, gave him his copy back, and listened to my copy every day for 9 months.

I haven't been the same ever since.

Right now I have the triple-CD CORNOLOGY and a CD of GORILLA. Think I'll stick one of them in the CD-Rom right this very moment!

Yes. One of THE greatest bands of all time.

Kindred spirits, indeed!

When I was in college, I read John Mendelsohn's review in "Rolling Stone" magazine of ... I can't remember, now, if it was "Beast of the Bonzos" or "Let's Make Up and Be Friendly" ... in any case, I went to the (vinyl) record store and over the course of time bought all of the Bonzo's albums. Subsequently, I bought all the albums I could find of the individual Bonzos-gone-solo (including following Neil Innes through the Rutles and Monty Python). After decommissioning my turntable in the aftermath of the great CD conversion, I missed the Bonzos greatly until the arrival of said "Cornology". Recently, I put all of "Cornology" on my main computer and on my iPod so I have Bonzos at my fingertips at all times -- ah, heaven! :D

Man, that sounds like me! I went to the record store and bought all the Bonzos albums over about a period of a year, and then bought all the Python albums and the Rutles album. I guess, like me, you saw the Rutles special when it first ran on TV.

BTW, the HISTORY anthology may have been double vinyl, not triple vinyl. But whatever, it was great. And the songs were not in chronological order. It was kind of like setting Cornology on random, though the anthology was, sadly, missing quite a bit of what's on Cornology.

About 10 years ago, incidentally, I had a very cool look into the Bonzos. Glenn Cornick of Jethro Tull lives in Los Angeles now, and a colleague of mine knew him and introduced me to him and I went to a bunch of jams over at Glenn's house. Anyway, Glenn's a funny guy, and he had some great stories about Tull opening for the Bonzos. Wish I could remember some of them! But I do recall something about explosions. And I remember laughing a lot. Oh, and Glenn said that he would always watch the Bonzos because they were so fun.

(Glenn also had stories about opening for Hendrix. Some people have all the luck! :x Well, okay. It's not JUST luck. Glenn IS a great bass player too. Last I heard, he was doing studio work in L.A.).

You're ahead of me there. I haven't converted to the iPod yet. It's a matter of time, I'm sure. But I've been spending my $$$ on music software, not listening hardware. Maybe for my birthday, though...
