Please, please fix or just get rid of some of the garbage patches in ST2...the ones that are barely audible and are basically useless. My main complaint about some of the ST2 patches were the levels. They are all over the place. Even that would make the library a whole lot more usable. I probably don't need to tell you that though.

Thanks,
Pete

It is a known issue that when some of the ST1 sounds were converted to ST2 that there was a bug. This was later FIXED.

Here's how to DL the sounds update from the IK Userforum:

You go to the www.ikmultimedia.com homepage.

On the left under the "support heading" is a link that says "User Area". Then once you click on that link a Login box comes up and you enter your user name and password (this was emailed when you registered the product), or you can follow the steps to register.

Then you go click on the "Dowload software updates and free contents"

This link has the ST2 updates and free patches and the "Sampletank 2 sounds fix"

Hope this helps,

Ben H

I thought I already installed that update a while back. I will try it again and see what happens.

Afterall, the press release was not specific in this, and although we can understand the Squids was busy with NAMM, but he was mysteriously slow in confirming this. He's been building us up pretty good lately, and when I saw the press release, I thought,, WOW,,, cool!!!!! But,,,,,,, oh well.

I know, this is just the way it goes, but I bought mine a couple of weeks ago. Had I known the new sound set was coming out, I would have gone for the group buy with the drums combo and the engine only, rather than the Sampletank 2 set.

I'm totaly happy with my IK/ products, and I'm very glad to get the free engine upgrade. I haven't even heard all my sounds yet, and the upgrade comes along. I'm sure the upgrade will be reasonable, and I'm sure I'll buy it. We can now take this as the way it is, and move on.

Don't think I don't know about business. If the car dealer you are hypothesizing about, put an add in the paper saying I was entitled to the current model and a CD player, I would go see what it was about, wouldnt' you? We just get the CD player,,, and the new model costs a few bucks. I'll be a customer for a long time, you can count on that!
Oh, well I should mention that one thing we'll probably be doing is allow anyone who bought ST2 in say the last month (from Jan 1st) up until the time ST2.1 comes out (Q2 some time I think) to have the sound update on the house. That's just something I can do on esoundz for esoundz customers though because we'll be carrying the sound upgrade (a lot of the upgrade will have been made by SR so...). Also, esoundz customers who bought ST2 before Jan 1st can try to build up some epointz to get it as cheap as possible. Maybe just before it comes out we'll do a contest of some kind to help people get more epointz toward something like that. Of course you can ALWAYS rack up epointz by referring people to the www.esoundz.com and ask them to mention your name in the referral for $5 in epointz for you and for them.

The reason we have to give the sounds for free for anyone who buys it now is so that people don't feel they have to WAIT. You can get ST2 now and know that you'll not miss out on the sounds (and of course the 2.1 software update but that will be something all ST2 L or XL users will be able to get). The reason we'd date it back to Jan 1st is because we KNOW that anyone who just bought it might be bummed out that they just missed it. So, this way you won't be. Of course, we have to draw the line and I am sure the person who bought it in December also wishes they had it too. All I can say is that it won't be too expensive and it will be totally worth it and of course optional.

Actually, if anyone wants to send me any email privately of any sounds they think have issues or should be axed/replaced feel free to do so: dave@sonicreality.com Of course, keep in mind that one man's boring harmonica is another man's oscar-winning hip hop lead sound. But, I'd be curious to hear specific opinions. I don't care to see them in the forum though so if you are serious then please just send an emai on it. If you have any sound requests you can do that too but again please do not bother in the forum as I won't be able to discuss details of this publicly.

I am going through every sound in ST2XL one by one to rework it and pick the best stuff, do enhanced programming with the new stretch engine and other fun stuff.

Honestly, I just put myself in the shoes of the customer and think about what I would expect or hope for within reason from a company I buy from. We esoundz we try to be as reasonable as possible on these things without sacrificing to the point where we suffer too badly. As long as we're still selling products on esoundz we can do special considerations like this where we even go back in time a bit before something was announced so we avoid anyone saying "Darn, I JUST got that!".

Damnit! Now I'm going to have to make an Oscar-winning hip hop track with a boring harmonica as the lead!

The reason you will have upset users is that recent buyers( after Jan. 20) of ST2xl will have these new sounds included in their purchase, even though they pay the same price existing users paid. I think the new sounds should be either sold as an expansion set or provided to all owners. Many of us bought this recently, before Jan 20 and now we aren't getting the sounds others are getting at the same price!

I got the impression from what Squids has said that as long as you purchased after 1st Jan you will be getting the sound upgrade free.

I bought and registered Sampletank on the 7th of January 2005, so as you can imagine, I'm not to happy about the 20th been the start off point!!

Surely January 1st is a better start point...Ok...your still gonna upset the people who got it for Christmas... but I mean January the 20th!!!! It seems like IK Multimedia are playing it safe : Get Christmas out of the way...Get the January sales out of the way...surely now everyone will have bought it...so lets release the freebie!!!!

Is anyone with me to start a crusade to get the date pushed back :)

Great to find this forum...why is there no link to it on the Sampletank site???

Catch ya later.

Because it's not an IK forum...it's a Sonic Reality forum. They have a link to it at sonic reality's site.

When we install the new sound update for St2 ( replace the original sounds with the stretch optimized ones ), will older projects still be able to open? Thank you :)
Play it by ear

Ooh, that's a good question. I think some instruments might be *removed* from the (older) ST2 library, so it might be possible that older projects will not be compatible with the new library.

However, I think the instruments that will be removed are some not-so-good ones from ST1, so you're probably not using them anyway.

Hmm... Probably best to let Squids answer this. Where is he? :?

Pheeleep, you could always keep your old Sampletank 2 sounds in a folder on your drive, until you load all of your old files, to be sure they all load. After you are sure you don't need them anymore, you could delete them, just like we did when going from SS1 to SS2.

Judas,,, where are you coming up with the Jan 20th date from???
