I started with ACID Pro in 1999, when 1.0, first came out. I upgraded to every version since. Since ACID Pro 5 came out, I've been using it more now, than I had ever before. It's always been a great loop arranging and audio editing tool, but the new features in ACID 5,(Folder Tracks, VST hosting, Rewire slave, Bus to Bus routing, Groove mapping, Media Manager, Real-time event reverse, Keyboard mapping, enhanced time stretching, DAO CD burning, I could go on and on....), has got me using ACID more now (almost daily, in my projects) than I ever did before. It's been such a joy to use. I can even use my UAD-1 plugins (with full PDC), in my projects too with tight sample accurate timing, even when looping a project with (2) UAD-1's worth of plugins on tracks, inserts & buses.

The one thing I would like to see, in a future ACID 6, is live input monitoring. I would love to plug my Gibson Les Paul into Guitar Rig, Amplitude or Nigel and play live to my ACID tracks. I can still rewire ACID to SONAR and use it's input monitoring,(which I do  ) but it would be nice to have it in ACID, as well.

Sonar does somehting that I really wish Acid would do. You can use more than one loop file in a single track. If you use 4 drum loops to make a part, you have to use 4 tracks in Acid. You can put them all into a single track in Sonar.

yeah, I'd love that too. It can get cluttered very quickly the way it is now.

With ACID 5's Folder Tracks, that's become a none issue for me. A great organizational and space saving tool, with mute, solo and editing features too.

i think the developers of acid lost their plot with the introduction of version 3 , with implementing midi into the program but still having this awfull visual studio like GUI which performs like how it looks :? :hihi:
version 4 brought back some hope with ASIO/VSTis and thinking that acid devel. might now concentrate more on performance and stability , targeting a more "creative" market , but version 5 prooves again that they lost it completely by using SQL server and still keeping all the negative aspects from the older versions ...

the only comparable product with the almost same development i can think of is ................................................

Windows 98 . :!:

i occasionally use v4 , but i can see this becoming less .
i moved on already .

It adds to system bloat and security issues - remember the one MS SQL worm (slammer?) that was affecting SQL servers - and not just "intentional" ones, but products that shipped with a restricted copy MS SQL as a database back-end, that some people didn't even realize was there, much less know how patch or administer it properly? Surely there are other/better alternatives for a single-user database backend...

I have Acid 4, although I rarely use it, and could probably sell it. When I saw the list of "features" in Acid 5, I decided there was no point in upgrading. The SQL server was the deal-killer for sure.

Here is a song, "Candy Girl", that I created entirely, from start to finish, in ACID Pro 5, including creating the final 256kbps wma v9/mp3 media , directly from the timeline. You can find it at ACIDPlanet:

http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=1755&T=3107

The project was done @ 16/44, included more than (30) tracks, (5) Bus tracks and (1) MIDI Synth Bus (Edirol Super Quartet). The vocals, bass & finger snaps were recorded directly into ACID, as beatmapped tracks. On this project, I used a combination of various ACID loops, from the Sony library, recorded audio and midi. For fx, in addition to ACID's Track EQ, I made extensive use of my UAD-1's (8 plugins-like the LA2A, Pultec EQ, EMT Plate 140, Precision Limiter) ,along with the WaveWarts Trackplug (to tame the bass), Voxengo Voxformer (Vocal Bus) and the new TapeBus (on the Master). ACID Pro 5, made creating this piece a breeze, and during many hours of recording, arranging & mixing, I used many of the new features, of A5 Pro, (like Folder Tracks, Bus to Bus routing, VST effects, Dim Monitor, Plugin-Manager, Media Manager), through it all, ACID 5 remained extremely stable and virtually trouble free, which allowed me to stay creative and be more productive. What I like about ACID, is you can create loop based music that does not sound like it was made with loops. You can create, mix & produce media (MP3's, WMA V9's, score video's, burn DAO CD's, even 5.1 suround sound), all in one app. ACID makes content creation, from start to finish, a breeze :D

ok but for my machine that will never connect to the internet, ever, it's not a problem obviously :D
well if you can deal with the sql server taking up 300+ MB of ram , a crash-o-rama happening while starting acid and it scanning the vst effects , having no possibility to NOT install sql server (even if you have one already running , like i had for business stuff) , waiting months for updates (lameass big company) , getting arrogant replies from the support ...... aaah , joy .

ok , you CAN make music with it (i did) and there are a lot of helpful people around to get you started if it seems you can't , but horses for courses , make your own experience , to see if something's "obvious" for you .
