Ack!
I got all hooked on the TV show "Lost" and downloaded all of the episodes.
They're about 387megs each, so this has really screwed my disk space.
...so, I want to burn the to video CDs or DVDs, but the crappy limited version of Roxio that came with my computer doesn't do either.
...so, does anyone know of good, simple freeware software for authoring video CDs or DVDs?
I've tried a google search, but it's mostly just commercial links to "Try it once with limited functionality, then pay us $45 to use the whole thing"...and the call that freeware! For shame!
Anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-S.

You could try CDBurnerXP Pro. It's free, and has a ton of features and many more coming very soon. I really think it will be all you need, for any CD or DVD burning. Find it here:
http://www.cdburnerxp.se/features.php
Hope this helps.

Hmmm...
I'm in the process of trying the CDXP pro-thingy, but it kinda seems like a lot of steps to get to video...
I started processing one file with the conversion utility, (avi=>Mpeg2), but aborted when it told me it was going to take 8 hours!
I have 14 files to do! That'd take longer than...well, it'd be a long time...
Also, it doesn't make VCDs, just video DVDs...I was hoping to avoid that because of the cost of media. (I already have CDs which I pilfer from work for free
)
Still, thanks for the input...any other ideas?
(Let me point out that I don't mind paying for software, it just pisses me off that I have to pay extra for functionality that I believe should be included with the purchase of the hardware...I mean, what's a CD/DVD burner without the burning software. What next, toasters where you have to buy aftermarket bread slots to make toast????)

Sleek Month quoth I mean, what's a CD/DVD burner without the burning software.
Cheaper, generally. Next time, pay the extra $5 and get a boxed drive rather than an OEM one.

An idiot on Set Theory:
"In some cases there is an object called red that contains everything that is red. In much the same way a pot is a plate."

sleek - anything that's going to burn a VCD or SVCD for you is going to have to convert the video files to MPG first. That's the only format that works.
If your files are AVIs, then set em to covert overnight
Alternatively, I just picked up a DVD player which plays avi files (DivX and XviD) for £30
This thing has played anything I've thrown at it so far. If that's an option for you, it's mabe worth looking into

There's a useful list of burning tools on VideoHelp.com. Scan through the list at this link.Sleek Month wrote:...so, does anyone know of good, simple freeware software for authoring video CDs or DVDs?

Hehehe. Anyways, more seriously, what OS? XP has CD burning out the box.

A few freebies on that list, eg CDBurner XP Pro, Burn4Free et.c.
