I used to use around 30-50 effects per track with 20+ tracks going. No, you ain't crazy at all.

That definitely helps, but not enough. There've been times where I just try to play one pattern, and then it's "please rise for the Exploding Computer National Anthem." I'm tempted to hook up my MD recorder and capture that sound

Yeah, me too, unless I specifically want to do something with a wav editor. For instance if a pattern is dependent on long delay-based effects that don't get going until a couple bars into it.

I guess you don't know that I'm a ninja...

I really only considered instruments, though (even though including effect VST's wouldn't raise the number that much because most of the effects I use come with FLStudio)

I am now officially reprimanded as I don't get the same results with the same FL gear! -that's encouraging though, to know what's possible.

As for instruments: pretty much all the sounds I use are instruments, and even the samples were generated by instruments in FL, so on average; ~12 instruments?

I like hardware like classic cars, but I've come across people on the net that are true self professed 'Gear Sluts'.

These guys wake up and go directly to Ebay, Harmony Central, Synth City et al and get excited that someone is selling a ARP 2600 in mint condition, or there's a Yamaha DX5 going cheap, and so on.

So I think software isn't much different. A 'gear slut' is a gear slut as far as I can see. Whether you spend $25,000 for some old ARP from Men Without Hats, or spend $250 for an Arturia software ARP.

Really? I think the Flanger, Phaser, Chorus, Reverb, Delay, Parametric EQ, and the little helpful ones like Soft clipper, Inverter, and stereo Enhancer are all great sounding. The only effects I have problems with is the compressor because the knobs are too coarse, and a better filter would be useful, too.

Am I a plugin pig?
