Mulling over why my "sound" is unique, and was trying to come up with some solid ideas about what makes me different than a billion other people making music.
So I pose to YOU the question;
What makes your music stand out, what are some of your artistic goals. (even if you haven't accomplished what you want to yet).
For me I've decided that it's always about bringing another dimension to the music I make, trying to get people to think about the journey rather than the "experience" (if that makes any sense).
Would love to hear what other people have to say.

my tunings on my guitar, my use of more the just pentatonic scales and my flash imo atleast that's how it appears too me to be judging by reactions to my music...What makes your music stand out,
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I build one of a kind hybrid ensembles in Reaktor for my tracks & get rid of them afterwards..
well not deleted, just hid from plain view so I don't use em again anytime soon..

I would say my music is a bit unique. I don't think I can point out much that is specifically original or unique about my tracks though.
However I do kick ass at girls.

The fact that I say my music is unique, is enough for it to be that.

It's the secret way I blend teriyaki and habanero seasonings together that makes my grilled chicken marinade recipe unique.....oh wait, you were talking about music...

keep a big pot on the bbq and fill it with beer/italian dressing, ~appx 1 in. deep - let it simmer with the raw chicken, then pluck them out and grill 'em; put em back in the now 1/2 to 1/4 in of dressing in the pot to keep warm until serving
niiiiiice
As to my sound; my special sound consists of one catchy hook ill performed and covered in poor arrangements. Really.

To be honest I'm a damn good synth programmer. If there's a sound I want I will get it, later, or a lot later.

to be honest, im not exactly sure what "my sound" is and i dont know that my work is necessarily all that unique. mabey this is one of those 'forest for the trees' type of situations where im too close to the music to really be able to tell. im not even sure what genre's im writing in.
a few people have mentioned that my tracks have a kind of fluidity to them, both in the writting and in the tones i use. i've also been told my music is very visual. i think thats about all i know.
i'd actually really appreciate it if some folks here listened to my stuff and let me know what they feel the defining characteristics/sounds of my music are. im also curious to know what styles i've been writing in. if anyone is actually interested/willing in this, the link to my site is in my sig. i've got a variety of stuff up up there that i've written over the last several years.
off the top of my head, i'd say my primary artistic goals are:
1. to write music where i feel im truely expressing myself
2. to write it well enough that the listeners can feel those expressions/emotions...and that the music will generate emotions in them.
secondary goals:
- i want to blend more styles of music together.
- im glad that some people think my music is visual, i want to keep that up and improve upon it.
pipe dream:
i would love to be able to make a living by writing the music i want to hear myself write. basically, get paid for doing what i'd already want to be doing.
goofy pipe dream:
i guess its silly, but i think it would be really great if it turned out that some of the artists who have influenced me over the years liked my stuff too. i've recieved so much from their music (creatively and emotionally) that it would be awesome to know that my music could give some back....both as a 'thanks' and because if i could impress those who have impressed me, i'd know i would have created something really worthwhile.

Okay, you guys that know my weird shit are going to laugh when I say this.... But my 'goal one day' is to have a CD that's as good, if not BETTER than Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' CD. I'm SERIOUS!
Atleast to my mind. If I ever do it, you guys my think it's like Portishead meets Aphex Twin and really sucks. But as long as I can say 'Yeah Lindsey and Stevie and all - suck on that!' I'll be a happy man!
