hi all,
i dont know what i am doin wrong, but i cant make it work to control any parameter in energy xt when loaded as vst effect in another host such as logic or ableton live.
i would like to use xt as a modular fx-chainer where i can instantly load up pre-defined set ups in my songs that i usually make with either logic or ableton live.
its no problem for me to assign my external midi controller to xt standalone.
the way i do it is i load up a vst --- then i go in the mixer in the show param section, i click on a parameter that i would like to control, then a xt specific fader shows up that represents that parameter i just selected and then i hit the map to cc pop up menu to the left of that fader...
so that works fine in standalone, but i cant make it to work in xts vst plug in version... i also tried the midi learn function in the map to cc dialog, but it just doesnt get any midi event at its input.
with all other vst plug ins i dont have any problem to assign them, cause all of them support vst automation, i know that xt doesnt do this.
but is there a way i can still use my external hosts to automate certain parameters?
that would help to keep my workflow and i dont need to bother around with xts internal way of sequencing and modulating parameters...
thanks for listening.
best wishes,
stk.
automation of xt in other hosts

I've been looking for this too, particularly in Ableton live 4, I suspect it's more a fault of the particular host than Ext though.
It'd be very useful to have a way of automating eXT from another host, perhaps a special module could be built that could act as a sort of midi 'ambasador' you could use to connect stuff to. This could provide a list of controls that would always turn up in the host's automation list.
There's probably a more elegant way to do it, getting Ableton to sort their midi out would be a good start.

I'm trying to understand why you wouldn't be able to automate parameters within eXT VSTfx (or VSTi) from another host.
You can't automate via VST automation, but you can send midi into the plug-in so you can automate controls surely.
Can you give me an example of something in particular that you are trying to automate in eXT plugin fom an external host?

well, i also thought it should work but it doesnt...
what i try is to route an external controller in ableton live to control a parameter of a vst plug in within xt_s vst fx version.
the corresponding fader in xt that is assigned to a vst plug in loaded in xt doesnt react to any incoming midi message - no matter if i assign it to the same cc number as the one that is coming from my external device - or if i hit midi learn, it just doesnt get any midi in it seems...
is there anything else that i need to do in xt to make cc automation work?
in xt standalone it just works fine to route midi from an external device to its input.
so maybe the host thing is the conflict.
i know that xt doesnt support vst automation, but does anybody know a way how to route and assign an external midi controller data to xt within ableton live? i just cant get my way through this.
all ideas are very welcome
many thx!
