I'm wondering if anyone has ever seen a "wrapper" VST that would enable MIDI automation in hosts that only display a limited number of parameter values (such as Ableton Live).
I could imagine a VST that did nothing except act as a patchbay between the host and its "tenant" VST. Using such a patchbay, you could put meaningful names on parameters and specify which parameters to make visible for automation. This would improve things like Reaktor which have hundreds of nearly anonymous parameters, and things like Live, which can only display and automate a fixed number of parameters.
EnergyXT is almost right for this - the VST version can itself host other VSTs. But it doesn't support automation; here is the relevent thread:

Any other candidates?
Ever seen this?

might want to check first.. hate to see you code one if it exists.. eg. never tried it, but didn't chainer have provisions like that? afaik, this v. of chainer is no longer free.. but mebbe if you an dig it out of someone it'd save work.
