Help with wave editor for Live

I'm trying to find a wave editor to tie into Live. I tried Audacity and it won't save the wave "in place". It only seems to support "export wav" or "save project". Am I missing something here? What happened to plain old "save"? :?

Additionally, I'd like to hear of any suggestions as to which editors work smoothly with Live. I'm looking in the free-$100 price range. I've got my eye on Wavelab Essentials but can't figure out what's nerfed compared to the real version.
