there are some pros outthere who do
vocalrecordings and other recordings
on old REVOX tapemachines only to
have that "natural" compression.
recording on videotapes with a
stereovideorecorder seems to be
a good alternative to the REVOX as
already mentioned by the excellent
posting of Bassballjg.
for vst-emulation of that effect try
"Steinberg Magneto" (expensive)
or the free "Doktor Schmitt Magneto".
but i think the results aren't as good as done with real tapes.
Maybe a cheap alternative to a tape sound?

I have to add my support for the Analogflux Tapebus. I have had this plugin a few weeks and love the smooth character it adds to my tracks here.
